6. Applications of Short Extreme Ultraviolet Pulses to the Spectroscopy of Atoms and Molecules
Abstract : This thesis is devoted to the characterisation in time and frequency, and to spectroscopic application, of extreme ultraviolet (XUV) pulses. High-order harmonic generation or wave mixing processes were used to produce the pulses in the XUV spectral region. READ MORE

7. Characterisation and Applications of Ultrashort Extreme Ultraviolet Pulses
Abstract : When a strong laser field interacts with free atoms, harmonics up to very high orders are created. This extreme ultraviolet (XUV) radiation has interesting properties, such as spatial and temporal coherence, short pulse duration and high brightness. This thesis concentrates on the temporal aspects of this radiation. READ MORE

8. Attosecond Optical and Electronic Wave Packets
Abstract : When a low-frequency laser pulse is focused to a high intensity in a gas, the electric field of the laser may become comparable to, or even exceed, the electric field between the electrons and the nucleus in the atom. Under such conditions, through a process known as high-order harmonic generation, bursts of extreme ultraviolet radiation may be emitted, with durations in the attosecond domain (1 as = 10^{-18} s), which is the time-scale of electronic processes. 9. Temporal Aspects of High-Intensity Laser-Matter Interactions
Abstract : The availability of short-pulse, high-intensity lasers has opened doors to new areas in atomic and plasma physics. The short pulses (a few femtoseconds), that are available today, enable unprecedented temporal measurements, while the high peak power accessible (several terawatts) allows physicists to study the interaction between light and relativistic plasmas. 10. Measurement and Control of Attosecond Light Fields
Abstract : Attosecond pulses are used to study electron dynamics in atoms and molecules. In this thesis, schemes to control the generation of attosecond pulses and pulse-shaping techniques to compress the pulses are presented. Generation of attosecond pulses requires high intensity, which is reached by focusing a pulsed femtosecond laser. READ MORE
