1. Spin-offs from Stretching a Point : Strings, Branes and Higher Spin
Abstract : String theory has proved to be a valuable theoretical laboratory for probing gravity and gauge theory in a unified framework. In this thesis some of the exciting spin-offs of string theory such as branes and higher spin are studied. After a review of the basics of string theory the four papers of the thesis are discussed. 2. A Kerr-full Study of Higher-Spin Amplitudes : An on-shell construction of higher-spin amplitudes for black holes and strings
Abstract : Recently, it was shown that Kerr black holes can be described via the classical infinite-spin limit of a special class of scattering amplitudes in a massive higher-spin quantum field theory. Although this approach has successfully obtained state-of-the-art results for spinning black-hole binaries, only the three-point amplitude that describes Kerr is known in full generality and a full understanding of the underlying Lagrangian is still missing. 3. Dualities, Symmetries and Unbroken Phases in String Theory : Probing the Composite Nature of the String
Abstract : The thesis treats aspects of string/M-theory in anti-de Sitter spacetimes and their supersymmetric completions. By applying the AdS/CFT correspondence, as well as models of spin chains and singletons, we try to attain a better understanding of the underlying symmetries and the unbroken phases of string/M-theory. 4. Torn, Spun and Chopped : Various Limits of String Theory
Abstract : For the first time in the history of physics we stand in front of a theory that might actually serve as a unification of it all - string theory. It provides a self-consistent framework for gravity and quantum mechanics, which naturally incorporates matter and gauge interactions of the type seen in the standard model. READ MORE

5. (2,0) Theory and Higher Spin: Twisting, Turning and Spinning Towards Higher Energies
Abstract : This thesis investigates an enigmatic six-dimensional quantum theory known as (2,0) theory and a three dimensional conformal theory of higher spin. The former has resisted an explicit construction as a quantum field theory, yet its existence can be inferred from string theory and M-theory where it plays a prominent role. READ MORE
