  1. 1. Transmission of slow highly charged ions through nano-structures

    Author : Nadeem Akram; Reinhold Schuch; Friedrich Aumayr; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Highly charged ions; nano-structures; nanocapillaries; ion-guiding; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on experimental investigations of transmitting slow highly charged ions through nano-structures of various cross-sections. Transmission through rhombic and rectangular nanocapillaries in muscovite and phlogopite mica, respectively, is used to study the guiding and shaping of highly charged ion beams. READ MORE

  2. 2. Spectroscopic Investigations of Highly Charged Tungsten Ions - Atomic Spectroscopy and Fusion Plasma Diagnostics

    Author : Joel Clementson; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; extreme ultraviolet spectra; spheromak; electron beam ion trap; magnetic fusion; tungsten; highly charged ions; atomic structure; x-ray spectroscopy; plasma diagnostics; Fysicumarkivet A:2010:Clementson;

    Abstract : The spectra of highly charged tungsten ions have been investigated using x-ray and extreme ultraviolet spectroscopy. These heavy ions are of interest in relativistic atomic structure theory, where high-precision wavelength measurements benchmark theoretical approaches, and in magnetic fusion research, where the ions may serve to diagnose high-temperature plasmas. 3. 3. The Penning trap mass spectrometer SMILETRAP II and evaporative cooling of highly-charged ions

    Author : Matthias Hobein; Reinhold Schuch; David Lunney; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Penning trap; Precision mass spectrometry; Atomic mass; Highly-charged ions; Evaporative cooling; Coherent oscillation; Ion beam emittance; Atomic physics; Atomfysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Accurate mass values have wide-ranging applications in physics and metrology, allowing, for example, to test quantum electrodynamics and fundamental symmetries, to determine fundamental constants, and to establish weight standards. This thesis describes the new high-precision double-Penning trap mass spectrometer SMILETRAP II which aims at relative uncertainties in the mass determination of 10-10 and below. READ MORE

  4. 4. Guiding of highly charged ions through insulating nanocapillaries

    Author : Hongqiang Zhang; Reinhold Schuch; Amine Cassimi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik; Atomic physics; Atomfysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis contains experimental work on guiding of highly charged ions through insulating nanocapillaries. We have studied the time evolution of angular distributions of transmitted ions under well defined initial conditions: already charged, as well as fully discharged nanocapillaries, by using a two-dimensional position sensitive Micro Channel Plate detector with a data acquisition system working in event mode.
