  1. 1. Hip and Spine in Cerebral Palsy

    Author : Måns Persson-Bunke; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cerebral palsy; windswept hip deformity; scoliosis; children; posture;

    Abstract : Abstract Background: Children with cerebral palsy (CP) have an increased risk of scoliosis, contractures including windswept hip deformity (WS), and hip dislocation. In 1994, a follow-up program and registry for children and adolescents with CP (CPUP) was initiated in Sweden to allow the early detection and prevention of hip dislocations and other musculoskeletal deformities. 2. 2. Aspects on treatment of femoral neck fractures : studies on treatment methods, surgical approach and external validity

    Author : Sebastian Mukka; Arkan Sayed-Noor; Olof Sköldenberg; Lasse Lapidus; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hip fracture; femoral neck fracture; treatment; total hip arthroplasty; hemiarthroplasty; internal fixation; surgical approach; outcome; dislocation; femoral offset; leg length discrepancy; external validity; ortopedi; Orthopaedics;

    Abstract : Femoral neck fracture (FNF) is a great challenge for today´s health care and is associated with high mortality and morbidity in the elderly.  In the short term several studies in the literature have demonstrated improved hip function, quality of life and fewer re-operations in elderly patients treated with total hip arthroplasty (THA) instead of internal fixation (IF). 3. 3. Dislocation of hip arthroplasty in patients with femoral neck fractures

    Author : Anders Enocson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Femoral neck fractures; Hip arthroplasty; Surgical treatment; Hip dislocations; Cognitive disorders; Quality of life; EQ-5D;

    Abstract : Treatment of displaced fractures of the femoral neck with a hemiarthroplasty (HA) or a total hip arthroplasty (THA) today constitutes standard procedures with a good and predictable outcome with regard to the need for revision surgery, hip function and the health-related quality of life (HRQoL). However, dislocation of the prosthesis remains a substantial clinical problem in this patient group and the dislocation rate is considerably higher than what can be expected following a THA in patients with osteoarthritis. 4. 4. Neonatal hip instability. The anterior-dynamic ultrasound method. Population screening and re-evaluation of some aetiological factors

    Author : John E. Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hip dislocation congenital; ultrasound examination; breech presentation; delivery hormone;

    Abstract : To evaluate neonatal hip instability, the values for the physiologically normal movement of the femoral head by provocation were determined by an anterior-dynamic ultrasound method. The maximal movement of the femoral head with the acetabulum at provocation was 6.0, 6.6 and 6. READ MORE

  5. 5. Evaluation of a metal-on-metal total hip arthroplasty

    Author : Henrik Dahlstrand; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: After the introduction of the Metasul system by Weber in 1988, total hip arthroplasty (THA) with metal-on-metal (MoM) bearings became increasingly popular in the 1990s. MoM bearings aimed to reduce the problem of aseptic loosening associated with polyethylene wear particles from conventional polyethylene cups. READ MORE
