  1. 1. Dopamine neurons in ventral mesencephalon : interactions with glia and locus coeruleus

    Author : Elisabet Berglöf; Ingrid Strömberg; Stephen B. Dunnett; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson’s disease; ventral mesencephalon; nerve fiber formation; glia; locus coeruleus; grafting; antioxidant-enriched diet; Histology; Histologi;

    Abstract : Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, characterized by a depletion of the dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. The cause of the disease is yet unknown but age, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation are some of the features involved in the degeneration. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cell-Specific Ca2+ Response in Pancreatic ß-cells

    Author : Natalia Gustavsson; Per Lindström; Peter Bergsten; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; heterogeneity; individual ß-cells; islets of Langerhans; cytoplasmic calcium; repetitive glucose stimulation; lag-time; cell-specific; glyceraldehyde; ketoisocaproic acid; tolbutamide; mitochondrial metabolism; Histology; Histologi;

    Abstract : Pancreatic ß-cells are heterogeneous in their secretory responsiveness, glucose sensitivity and metabolic rate. A diminished and delayed first-phase insulin release is an early sign of failing ß-cells in diabetes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cytogenetic studies of primary and metastatic breast cancer

    Author : Adewale Adeyinka; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; histokemi; cytokemi; Histologi; tissue culture; cytochemistry; histochemistry; Histology; metastases; prognosis; male breast cancer; breast cancer; trisomy 12; Cytogenetics; chromosomes; vävnadskultur; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Abstract : A series of primary and metastatic breast carcinomas obtained from female and male patients were cytogenetically analysed. Trisomy 12 was identified as a recurrent and sometimes early event in breast carcinogenesis. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mechanosensing in the vascular wall - the role of cellular microdomains in vascular remodeling

    Author : Sebastian Albinsson; Kärlfysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur; cytochemistry; histochemistry; wall stress; shear stress; hypertension; Histology; differentiation; growth; caveolin; smooth muscle; actin; Fysiologi; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : The vascular wall has a remarkable capacity to adapt to mechanical forces exerted by the intraluminal blood pressure and flow. This includes rapid change in contractile tone as well as chronic alteration of vessel structure if the stimulus persists. Stretch of the intact blood vessel wall promotes growth and contractile differentiation. READ MORE

  5. 5. The functional anatomy of kappa promoters

    Author : Mats Bemark; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; histochemistry; cytochemistry; Histology; transcription; octamer; promoters; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur;

    Abstract : Immunoglobulin kappa promoters were collected from mice and man. It was shown that they had homology within but not between subgroups, and the promoters were also conserved between species. The octamer element was found in all promoters, but other sequence elements were conserved within the distinct subgroups. READ MORE
