  1. 16. From dopamine nerve fiber formation to astrocytes

    Author : Franziska Marschinke; Ingrid Strömberg; Cecilia Lundberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dopamine; dopaminergic neurons; astroglia; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Histology; Histologi; neurologi; Neurology;

    Abstract : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease and characterized by the loss of dopaminergic (DA) neurons in the substantia nigra in the midbrain. The causes of the disease are still unknown. READ MORE

  2. 17. Pituitary Adenylate Cyclase Activating Peptide (PACAP): An Experimental Study On the Expression and Regulation in the Peripheral Nervous System

    Author : Kristian Moller; Neuroendokrin cellbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytokemi; histokemi; Histologi; vävnadskultur; Histology; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with PACAP and PACAP type-1 receptors in the sensory and autonomic parts of the peripheral nervous system. In the rat, PACAP is expressed in small-sized sensory neurons and in C-fibers. READ MORE

  3. 18. The Polyamine Dependence of Cell Cycle Progression-Application in Breast Cancer Treatment

    Author : Louise Myhre; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tissue culture; histochemistry; Histology; cytochemistry; onkologi; cancer; Cytologi; oncology; cancerology; Cytology; cell cycle kinetics; cell cycle regulatory proteins; polyamine analogues; DENSPM; CGP48664; DFMO; cell cycle regulation; Polyamines; breast cancer; Djurfysiologi; Animal physiology; vävnadskultur; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi;

    Abstract : In the normal functioning organism, there is a balance between cell proliferation, cell differentiation, and cell death. An imbalance in these processes results in different diseases. This thesis concerns the imbalance where there is too little cell death and cell differentiation with increased cell proliferation. READ MORE

  4. 19. Endothelial-leukocyte interactions

    Author : Maria Olofsson; Diabetes - öpatofysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Histology; endothelial cell; leukocyte; apoptosis; mitochondria; heparin binding protein; vascular permeability; E-selectin; migration; rolling; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur;

    Abstract : This thesis describes early inflammatory responses involving interactions between leukocytes and the endothelial lining of the blood vessel wall. An adhesion molecule, E-selectin, which is upregulated on interleukin-1 activated endothelium, was found to mediate rolling between leukocytes and endothelial cells in vivo. READ MORE

  5. 20. Role of the CD47/SIRPα-interaction in regulation of macrophage phagocytosis

    Author : Mattias Olsson; Per-Arne Oldenborg; Hans Tapper; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; immunology; cell biology; Histology; Histologi;

    Abstract : CD47 is a cell surface glycoprotein that is expressed by virtually all cells in the body. Binding of CD47 to the macrophage receptor Signal Regulatory Protein alpha (SIRPα) yields an inhibitory signal that counteracts phagocytosis. READ MORE
