  1. 1. Applications of diffusion MRI: Tensor-valued encoding, time-dependent diffusion, and histological validation

    Author : Jan Brabec; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diffusion MRI; meningioma; glioma; brain tumors; intracranial tumors; undulations; restricted diffusion; time dependence; spherical b-tensor encoding; linear b-tensor encoding; histogram analysis; anisotropic kurtosis; isotropic kurtosis; hyperintensity; conspicuity; white matter; detection; diffusion spectrum; consistency; type; grade; axon diameter; axonal trajectories; Fysicumarkivet A:2022:Brabec;

    Abstract : Diffusion MRI (dMRI) sensitizes the MR signal to the diffusion of water molecules at the microscopic level and thereby non-invasively probes tissue microstructure. This is relevant when determining biological properties of tissues, for example, cancer type and its malignancy. READ MORE

  2. 2. On healing after periapical surgery and different retrograde root-filling materials. A clinical and histological study

    Author : Dan-Åke Wälivaara; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : periapical surgery; ultrasonic preparation; IRM; thermoplasticized gutta-percha; Super-EBA; mineral trioxide aggregate; root-filling status; lesion size; lesion type;

    Abstract : Aims: The outcome from conventional endodontic therapy does not always result in a healing of the periapical area, thus leaving a remaining lesion with or without symptoms. The primary treatment alternative is a revision of the orthograde root-filling if applicable. A second treatment alternative might be a periapical surgery procedure. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies of the human pancreas to understand the pathologic events leading to type 1 diabetes

    Author : Louise Granlund; Skog Oskar; Olle Korsgren; Marcus Lundberg; Per Andrén; Teresa Rodriguez-Calvo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pancreas; Type 1 Diabetes; Islets of Langerhans; Exocrine tissue; Acinar cells; Islet Microvasculature; Endocrine cells; Extra-islet cells; Insulin; Glucagon; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is classically described as a disease emanating from beta-cell loss, and as such, the beta cells have been the main target of investigation. However, recent years have witnessed a shift in perspective, with T1D being increasingly recognized as a condition that affects the entire pancreas. READ MORE

  4. 4. Biological and histological factors as predictors in rectal cancer patients : A study in a clinical trial of preoperative radiotherapy

    Author : Annica Holmqvist; Xiao-Feng Sun; Gunnar Adell; Jan-Erik Frödin; Östergötlands Läns Landsting; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : With improved surgical techniques and preoperative radiotherapy (RT) the local recurrence rate in rectal cancer patients has been reduced, however the mortality rate is still high and there is a huge variation in the response to preoperative RT in patients with the same tumour stage. To improve patient’s survival, it is of great importance to identify good prognostic and predictive factors that help us to select the best suited patients for preoperative RT in the future. 5. 5. From fatty liver to end-stage liver disease through type 2 diabetes

    Author : Karl Björkström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The past decades have seen a marked increase in the incidence of type 2 diabetes and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Epidemiological studies have clearly demonstrated that there is an association between type 2 diabetes and NAFLD. READ MORE
