  1. 16. Development of techniques to determine extracellular matrix alterations in acute and chronic lung diseases and bioengineered tissues

    Author : Iran Augusto Silva; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Histology; semi-quantive score system; Biomaterial; ARDS; animal model;

    Abstract : Acute and chronic lung diseases are a major cause of global mortality. While pharmacological approaches exist, no therapies are curative. The only option at end-stage disease is lung transplantation which is hampered by a chronic shortage of donor organs. READ MORE

  2. 17. The functional anatomy of kappa promoters

    Author : Mats Bemark; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; histochemistry; cytochemistry; Histology; transcription; octamer; promoters; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur;

    Abstract : Immunoglobulin kappa promoters were collected from mice and man. It was shown that they had homology within but not between subgroups, and the promoters were also conserved between species. The octamer element was found in all promoters, but other sequence elements were conserved within the distinct subgroups. READ MORE

  3. 18. Dopamine neurons in ventral mesencephalon : interactions with glia and locus coeruleus

    Author : Elisabet Berglöf; Ingrid Strömberg; Stephen B. Dunnett; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson’s disease; ventral mesencephalon; nerve fiber formation; glia; locus coeruleus; grafting; antioxidant-enriched diet; Histology; Histologi;

    Abstract : Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, characterized by a depletion of the dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. The cause of the disease is yet unknown but age, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation are some of the features involved in the degeneration. READ MORE

  4. 19. Morphometrical Methodology in Quantification of Biological Tissue Components

    Author : Bo Blomgren; Godfried Roomans; Christian Falconer; Marita Hilliges; Steven Campbell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bildanalys; Morphometry; Stereology; Image analysis; histology; Bildanalys; Image analysis; Bildanalys;

    Abstract : Objective:To develop and validate computer-assisted morphometrical methods, based on stereological theory, in order to facilitate the analysis and quantitative measurements of biological tissue components.Material and methods:Biopsy specimens from the vaginal wall or from the vestibulum vaginae of healthy women, or from women suffering from incontinence or vestibulitis were used. 5. 20. On 606 retrieved oral and cranio-facial implants. An analysis of consecutively received human specimens

    Author : Pia Bolind; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : retrieved human implants; oral; craniofacial; bone; undecalcified sections; histology; histomorphometry;

    Abstract : Aim:The aim of the present thesis was to histologically and histomorphometrically analyse retrieved human specimens of oral and cranio-facial implants, and to address the clinical relevance of a retrieval bank.Materials and methods:The specimens analysed were submitted to the retrieval bank at the Department of Biomaterials / Handicap Research.
