  1. 1. Methyltransferase Ash1, histone methylation and their impact on Polycomb repression

    Author : Eshagh Dorafshan Esfahani; Yuri B. Schwartz; Jan Larsson; Dale Dorsett; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Trithorax Group proteins; Polycomb Group proteins; PRC1; PRC2; PRE; histone methylation; histone ubiquitylation; Ash1; SET domain; H3K36; H3K27; Drosophila;

    Abstract : Antagonistic interactions between Polycomb Group (PcG) and Trithorax Group (TrxG) proteins orchestrate the expression of key developmental genes. Distinct maternally loaded repressors establish the silenced state of these genes in cells where they should not be expressed and later PcG proteins sense whether a target gene is inactive and maintain the repression throughout multiple cell divisions. 2. 2. Chromatin, histones, and epigenetic tags

    Author : Elisavet Koutzamani; Ingemar Rundquist; Herbert Lindner; Sergey Belikov; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chromatin; histones; histone variants; epigenetics; histone H4 methylation; linker histone phosphorylation; Medical cell biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : The fundamental building blocks of chromatin are the nucleosomes. Each such unit is composed of about 200 bp of DNA, the well-conserved core histones (H2A, H2B, H3 and H4) and a linker histone (H1). READ MORE

  3. 3. Phylogeny and Taxonomy of Childia (Acoela) : New characters for unraveling acoel phylogenies from molecules, ultrastructure, immunocytochemistry and confocal microscopy

    Author : Yonas Isaak Tekle; Ulf Jondelius; Mikael Thollesson; Isabel Sanmartin; Kennet Lundin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Biology; Childiidae; Childia; Paraphanostoma; Acoela; phylogeny; taxonomy; morphology; 18S rRNA; 28S rRNA; Histone H3; ultrastructure; confocal; phalloidin; immunocytochemistry; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a comprehensive phylogenetic and taxonomic study of an acoel subgroup, the Childiidae. Members of this taxon are characterized by well-developed male copulatory organs with conical/cylindrical stylets. READ MORE

  4. 4. Biomarkers in endotoxemia with a special interest in citrullinated histone H3

    Author : Sofie Paues Göranson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Background: Sepsis with multi-organ failure has an unacceptably high mortality rate of 25- 30% despite the use of antibiotics and modern intensive care. Attenuating the multi-organ failure and finding new biomarkers for early detection of septic shock would be of high clinical relevance in order to improve outcome. READ MORE

  5. 5. The Interaction of the Adenovirus E1B-55K Protein with a Histone Deacetylase Complex: Its Importance in Regulation of P53 Protein Functions

    Author : Tanel Punga; Göran Akusjärvi; Klas G. Wiman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; adenovirus; E1B-55K; p53; histone acetylation; Sin3; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : The human tumour suppressor protein p53 is an effective inhibitor of cell growth, by inducing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. However, p53-induced cell growth inhibition can be detrimental for virus multiplication. Therefore, viruses encode for proteins, which can interfere with the functions of the p53 protein. READ MORE
