  2. 2. Chromatin structure and histone modifications in gene regulation

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Cell and Molecular Biology

    Author : Carolina Åstrand; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2006]

    Abstract : In the living cell, DNA is densely packed into a chromatin structure constituting nucleosomal arrays. One nucleosome core particle includes a disc shaped protein octamer consisting of pairs of histones H2A, H2B, H3 and H4. 146 bp of DNA is wrapped in almost two turns around this protein complex. University dissertation from Institutionen för biomedicin och kirurgi

    Author : Elisavet Koutzamani; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2006]

    Abstract : The fundamental building blocks of chromatin are the nucleosomes. Each such unit is composed of about 200 bp of DNA, the well-conserved core histones (H2A, H2B, H3 and H4) and a linker histone (H1). READ MORE

  4. 4. Genome-wide patterns of histone modifications in fission yeast

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet

    Author : Indranil Sinha; Södertörns högskola.; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2010]

    Abstract : DNA is wrapped almost two times around a group of proteins called histones to form a chromosomal structure known as the nucleosome. Both DNA and histones can be modified with different chemical tags by several enzymes to activate or suppress a particular gene or group of genes. Histones can be covalently modified at several places. READ MORE

  5. 5. Epigenetic Regulation of Gene Transcription in Hematopoietic Tumors

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Marina Tshuikina Wiklander; Uppsala universitet.; [2008]
    Keywords : Medical sciences; IRF family; ICSBP IRF8; epigenetics; ATRA; TNFα; histone modifications; methylation; transcription; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD;

    Abstract : Epigenetic modifications were shown to play an essential role in tumorigenesis. Epigenetic mechanisms can alter transcription in several ways, through DNA methylation and/or through histone modification. DNA methylation at the TSS (transcriptional start site) has been implicated in tumor development and gene silencing. READ MORE
