  1. 21. Reconstruction of Past European Land Cover Based on Fossil Pollen Data : Gaussian Markov Random Field Models for Compositional Data

    Author : Behnaz Pirzamanbein; Matematisk statistik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Spatial Statistics; Adaptive Markov Chain Monte Carlo; Dirichlet Observation; Confidence Region; Palaeoecology; Past Human Land Use; Stochastic Partial Differential Equation;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to develop statistical models to reconstruct past land cover composition and human land use based on fossil pollen records over Europe for different time periods over the past 6000 years. Accurate maps of past land cover and human land use are needed when studying the interaction between climate and land surface, and the effects of human land use on past climate. READ MORE

  2. 22. The function of open fields : agriculture in early modern Sweden

    Author : Kristofer Jupiter; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the spatial arrangement of holdings and villages in early modern open fields, the dominating system in large parts of Europe for nearly a millennium. Open fields is characterised by the spatial division of holdings, scattered and intermingled in one or more fields. READ MORE

  3. 23. Local and regional dynamics of Succisa pratensis

    Author : Mikael Mildén; Johan Ehrlén; Ove Eriksson; Juha Tuomi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; plant ecology; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Land use change is considered to be one of the biggest threat to global species diversity. In Sweden, abandonment of grazing is one of the most common reasons for decline in species richness in semi-natural grasslands. Today semi-natural grasslands often occur as more or less isolated fragments. READ MORE

  4. 24. Peakflow response of stream networks : implications of physical descriptions of streams and temporal change

    Author : Anna Åkesson; Anders Wörman; Alberto Viglione; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Streamflow routing; peakflow predictions; parameterization; hydrological response; stage-dependency; flooded cross-sections; stream networks; backwater effects; temporal change; land use change; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Abstract : Through distributed stream network routing, it has quantitatively been shown that the relationship between flow travel time and discharge varies strongly nonlinearly with stream stage and with catchment-specific properties.Physically derived distributions of water travel times through a stream network were successfully used to parameterise the streamflow response function of a compartmental hydrological model. 5. 25. Design and implementation of a programmable, wideband sonar for sediment mapping

    Author : Peter Jonsson; Teknisk geologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; centroid; programmable sonar; sediment mapping; underwater acoustics; hydroacoustics; echosounder;

    Abstract : To be able to explore different signal types and processing techniques, apt for sediment mapping, programmable, fully digital profiling systems has been built and tested. The systema are designed to be deployed also at small water depths from small boats, without special handling equipment. READ MORE
