11. Mechanisms of immune escape in EBV associated malignancies : Hodgkin's disease and Burkitt's lymphoma
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis is focused on the analysis of the mechanisms operating in the immune escape of two Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) associated tumors: Hodgkin's Disease (HD) and Burkitt's lymphoma (BL). EBV positive HD tumor cells express at least 3 viral proteins: the EBV nuclear antigen (EBNA)1, the latent membrane proteins (LMP)1 and LMP2A. READ MORE

12. Computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
Abstract : Certain aspects of the use of computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) were evaluated in patients with non-Hodgkin'slymphoma (NHL) with the aim of improving the management of these patients.Subjective evaluation of the tumor pattern on CT images, and quantification of tracer uptake using 11C methionine (11C Met) and [18F] fluorodeoxyglucose (18FDG) PET in patients with NHL, were performed to determine their relations to malignancy grade. 13. Hepatitis C virus infection : a nationwide study of associated morbidity and mortality
Abstract : The hepatitis C virus (HCV) was characterised in 1989. HCV was transmitted through transfusion of blood/blood products, but injection drug use is now the most common route of transmission. READ MORE

14. Tumor-targeted superantigens for experimental immunotherapy of human leukemia/lymphoma
Abstract : Bacterial superantigens (SAgs) have the property of stimulating high proportions of T cells expressing certain TCR Vβ sequences. The SAg first binds with high affinity to HLA class II molecules on the target cell and then stimulates the T cell to produce cytokines and to become cytotoxic. READ MORE

15. Regulation of molecular processes in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma
Abstract : The molecular understanding of diseases has advanced rapidly due to the use of gene expression profiling. However, these methods have been hampered by the limitation to use frozen tissue specimens. Formalin fixation and paraffin embedding (FFPE) is a standard procedure for long time storage of tissues.
