  1. 11. Climate in the eastern Mediterranean during the Holocene and beyond – A Peloponnesian perspective

    Author : Martin Finné; Karin Holmgren; Hanna S. Sundqvist; Georgia Destouni; Neil Roberts; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Stable isotopes; U-Th dating; stalagmites; climate variability; flooding history; eastern Mediterranean; southern Greece; Holocene; Pleistocene; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : This thesis contributes increased knowledge about climate variability during the late Quaternary in the eastern Mediterranean. Results from a paleoclimate review reveal that regional wetter conditions from 6000 to 5400 years BP were replaced by a less wet period from 5400 to 4600 years BP and to fully arid conditions around 4600 years BP. 2. 12. Reconstruction of Holocene atmospheric mineral dust deposition from raised peat bogs in south–central Sweden

    Author : Jenny Sjöström; Malin Kylander; Jonatan Klaminder; Martina Hättestrand; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mineral dust; paleodust; peat; Sweden; Holocene; mineralogy; XRD;

    Abstract : Atmospheric mineral dust plays a dynamic role in the climate system acting both as a forcing and a feedback mechanism. To date, the majority of paleodust studies have been conducted on marine sediments or polar ice cores, while terrestrial deposition has been less studied. READ MORE

  3. 13. Holocene climate and environmental dynamics on the Tristan da Cunha island group, South Atlantic

    Author : Karl Ljung; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; palynologi; Geology; climate change; pollen analysis; Palaeobotany; phylogeny; palynology; Paleobotanik; fylogeni; vegetation change; gyttja; peat; Holocene; Quaternary; South Atlantic; Tristan da Cunha; physical geography; Geologi; fysisk geografi;

    Abstract : It has been shown that the present interglacial has been climatically dynamic with both rapid and severe climatic fluctuations. The spatial and temporal differences of these changes are however not fully resolved. The aim of this thesis is to present a detail high resolution record of past climate changes from the central South Atlantic. READ MORE

  4. 14. Holocene climate and environmental change in high latitudes as recorded by stable isotopes in peat deposits

    Author : Päivi Kaislahti Tillman; Steffen Holzkämper; Stefan Wastegård; Peter Kuhry; Thomas W. D. Edwards; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stable isotopes; Holocene; subarctic; climate; Sphagnum fuscum; kvartärgeologi; Quarternary Geology;

    Abstract : In this thesis, stable carbon and oxygen isotopes in α-cellulose isolated from Sphagnum fuscum moss remains were used as climate proxies. The main focus was to implement the methods in records from high latitude peatlands in the Northern Hemisphere (west-central Canada and north-eastern European Russia), reconstruct palaeoclimate of the studied regions during the Holocene, and evaluate the compatibility of results with other proxy records, especially tree-ring isotope time-series.
