  1. 6. Paleoclimate and seasonality on Sumatra during the Late Glacial and Holocene : Insights from biomarkers and climate model simulations

    Author : Lars Petter Hällberg; Malin Kylander; Frederik Schenk; Rienk Smittenberg; David Naafs; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Holocene; Late Glacial; biomarkers; organic geochemistry; climate model; hydrogen isotopes; stable isotopes; paleoclimate; alkanes; GDGT; brGDGT; H-GDGT; bacterial community shifts; paleothermometry; precipitation reconstruction; peat; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Abstract : Deep atmospheric convection in the Indo-Pacific Warm Pool (IPWP) is a key driver of the Hadley and Walker Circulations that modulate the Asian-Australian monsoons and the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO). Temperature and rainfall seasonality, i.e. READ MORE

  2. 7. Speleothems as environmental recorders : A study of Holocene speleothems and their growth environments in Sweden

    Author : Hanna S. Sundqvist; Karin Holmgren; Anders Moberg; Regine Hock; Frank McDermott; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; speleothems; palaeoclimate; stable isotopes; luminescence; karst hydrology; Holocene; Sweden; Jämtland; Physical geography; Naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The main aim of this thesis was to contribute with detailed information of regional environmental change during the Holocene through studies of speleothems and their growth environments from two caves, Korallgrottan and Labyrintgrottan in northwestern Sweden, and a cellar vault in Uppsala. This was done through studies of stable isotopes and luminescence properties in the speleothems in combination with a detailed monitoring study in Korallgrottan. READ MORE

  3. 8. Mid-Holocene mineral dust deposition in raised bogs in southern Sweden : Processes and links

    Author : Jenny Sjöström; Malin Kylander; Carl-Magnus Mörth; Bindler Richard; Lisa Belyea; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Paleodust; peat; geochemistry; mineralogy; REE; Holocene; peat accumulation rates; paleostorms; Marine Geology; maringeologi;

    Abstract : Atmospheric mineral dust is a key component of the climate system, which affects insolation, brings nutrients to marine and terrestrial ecosystems, and acts as a cloud condensation nuclei. To reconstruct past patterns in terrestrial dust deposition natural archives may be utilized, such as loess, dunes, lakes, and peat bogs. READ MORE

  4. 9. Diatoms as indicators of Holocene climate and environmental change in northern Sweden

    Author : Christian Bigler; Ingemar Renberg; Roland Hall; N. John Anderson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical geography and sedimentology; diatoms; Holocene; paleolimnology; climate change; lake sediments; transfer functions; quantitative environmental reconstructions; northern Sweden; Abisko; Naturgeografi och sedimentologi; Physical geography; Naturgeografi; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Abstract : The objective of the thesis was to explore the potential of diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) as indicators of Holocene climate and environmental change in northern Sweden (Abisko region, 68°21'N, 18°49'E). A modern surface-sediment calibration set including 100 lakes was developed and lake-water pH, sedimentary organic content (assessed by loss-on-ignition) and temperature were identified as most powerful environmental variables explaining the variance within the diatom assemblages. 5. 10. Holocene vegetation dynamics and climate changes in the Torneträsk area, northern Sweden

    Author : Lena Barnekow; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Paleobotanik; palynology; phylogeny; Palaeobotany; northern Sweden; Torneträsk; Abisko; lake-level; radiocarbon dating; forest history; Holocene; tree-line; climate; Vegetation; fylogeni; palynologi; Physical geography; geomorphology; pedology; cartography; climatology; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to reconstruct the Holocene vegetation history and the climate changes in a subarctic area. The results are based on pollen and macrofossil records from six lakes in the Torneträsk area. The lakes are situated at altitudes between 370 and 999 m a.s. READ MORE
