  1. 1. Risk assessment in patients with acute myocardial infarction treated with thrombolysis

    Author : Bassem Abdel Samad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : echocardiography; exercise stress test; heart rate variability; Holter recording; low-dose dobutamine echocardiography; myocardial infarction; myocardial perfusion scintigraphy; myocardial viability; prognosis; thrombolysis.;

    Abstract : Risk stratification in patients with acute myocardial infarction is essential for guiding the clinical decision concerning management. Thrombolytic therapy and other new management policies have led to a significant reduction in mortality from myocardial infarction. READ MORE

  2. 2. Quality Control in ECG-based Atrial Fibrillation Screening

    Author : Hesam Halvaei; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ECG; Signal Quality; Atrial fibrillation screening;

    Abstract : This thesis comprises an introductory chapter and four papers related to quality control in ECG-based atrial fibrillation (AF) screening. Atrial fibrillation is a cardiac arrhythmia characterized by an irregular rhythm and constitutes a major risk factor for stroke. READ MORE

  3. 3. Atrial fibrillation : clinical presentation and prevention of recurrences

    Author : Anna Nergårdh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Atrial fibrillation; arrhythmias; beta-blocker; cardioversion; symptoms;

    Abstract : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained arrhythmia of clinical importance. AF is known to decrease quality of life and it is related to an increased morbidity and a risk of tromboembolic events. AF may also be asymptomatic, and to what extent patients actually are able to distinguish between sinus rhythm (SR) and AF is unknown. READ MORE

  4. 4. Screening for atrial fibrillation in high-risk individuals : a stroke preventive effort

    Author : Emma Svennberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : INTRODUCTION: A condition can be suitable for population screening if the disease is an important health problem, can be detected by an appropriate test and has a silent/latent stage during which treatment could be initiated in order to prevent consequences of the disease. Atrial fibrillation (AF) increases the risk of ischemic stroke 5-fold, a risk that can be reduced by at least 64% by the use of stroke-preventive, oral anticoagulant (OAC) therapy, and there are several non-invasive methods that can be used to diagnose AF.
