  2. 22. Temporal dynamics of brain and hormone changes during parr-smolt transformation in salmon

    Author : Lars Ebbesson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; animal morphology; Animal anatomy; growth hormone; metamorphosis; thyroid hormones; neural plasticity; Djurs anatomi och morfologi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes a series of studies designed to elucidate brain circuitry changes during parr-smolt transformation (smoltification) in salmon. The studies revealed sequential orderly chemical and structural changes of the brain. READ MORE

  3. 23. The Impact of Growth Hormone and Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate (GHB) on Systems Related to Cognition

    Author : Jenny Johansson; Mathias Hallberg; Fred Nyberg; Linda Fryklund; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Drug dependence is a serious and increasing problem in our society, especially among adolescents. The use of the large variety of substances available can result in a range of physiological and psychological adverse effects on individuals and negative consequences on the society overall. 4. 24. Adrenergic receptors in brown adipose tissue

    Author : Jan Svartengren; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The purpose of this study was to identify adrenergic receptors and to investigate their regulation of physiological processes in brown adipose tissue.Isolated hamster brown fat cells and plasma membrane fractions contained a high number of α1- and β1-adrenergic receptors, as assessed by direct radioligand binding techniques using (3H)prazosin and (-)(3H)dihydroalprenolol, respectively. 5. 25. Evolution of Vertebrate Endocrine and Neuronal Gene Families : Focus on Pituitary and Retina

    Author : Daniel Ocampo Daza; Dan Larhammar; Marc Robinson-Rechavi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : phylogenetics; evolution; molecular evolution; gene family evolution; genome duplication; gene duplication; oxytocin receptor; vasopressin receptor; visual opsin; transducin; growth hormone; prolactin; somatolactin; growth hormone receptor; prolactin receptor; somatostatin receptor; SSTR; IGFBP; evolution; molekylär evolution; fylogeni;

    Abstract : The duplication of genes followed by selection is perhaps the most prominent way in which molecular biological systems gain multiplicity, diversity and functional complexity in evolution. Whole genome duplications (WGDs) therefore have the potential of generating an extraordinary amount of evolutionary innovation. READ MORE
