  1. 1. Particle dynamics during biomass devolatilization : Momentum exchange and particle dispersion

    Author : Angel David Garcia Llamas; Kentaro Umeki; Rikard Gebart; Per Gren; Peter Glarborg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biomass; devolatilization; rocketing; PIV; PTV; Energiteknik; Energy Engineering;

    Abstract : Devolatilization is a heat-driven thermochemical process in which a liquid or a solid fuel releases mass in the form of volatile compounds after drying, as a result of the combination of endothermic and exothermic reactions. It differs from pyrolysis in that it does not require an inert atmosphere and that the reactant must be either solid or liquid. READ MORE

  2. 2. On Particle Transport and Turbulence Modification in Air-Particle Flows

    Author : Camilla Ljus; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; turbulent dispersion; hot film probe; turbulence measurements; turbulence modification; particle transport; two-fluid model;

    Abstract : The transport of particles by airflow was studied for two different flow cases, the transport of pulp fibres in a mat-forming process and the transport of pulp fibres and spherical particles in a horizontal pipe. The transport of pulp fibres in the mat-forming process is first considered. READ MORE

  3. 3. Liquid phase sintering of W-Ni-Fe composites : liquid penetration, agglomerate separation and tungsten particle growth

    Author : Anders Eliasson; Hasse Fredriksson; Thomas Gomez-Acebo; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Liquid phase sintering; heavy metal; particle composites; tungsten; penetration; agglomerate separation; particle interaction; parabolic flight; sounding rockets; microgravity; Kirkendall effect; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : The initial stage of liquid phase sintering, involving liquid penetration, agglomerate separation, particle spreading and growth has been investigated in experiments using tungsten heavy alloys. The particle composites used were produced by hot isostatic pressing (HIP) of pure powder mixtures of W-Ni-Fe-(Co). READ MORE

    Abstract : Minimizing pollutants are of utmost importance to ensure sustainability in transportation. Particle emissions from internal combustion engines are especially harmful to human health, while also contributing to global warming. READ MORE

  5. 5. Approaches to particle acceleration in intense laser-matter interaction

    Author : Joel Magnusson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; particle-in-cell; nonlinear dynamics; laser; plasma; laser-matter interaction; particle acceleration;

    Abstract : In the interaction of ultra-intense laser fields with matter, the target is rapidly ionized and a plasma is formed. The ability of a plasma to sustain acceleration gradients, orders of magnitude larger than achievable with conventional accelerators, has led to a great interest in laser-driven plasma-based particle acceleration and radiation generation, with applications in materials science, biology and medicine.
