  1. 16. Spatial and temporal mechanisms of cell fate determination in the developing CNS

    Author : José Dias; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The generation of neural cell diversity in the developing central nervous system relies on mechanisms that provide spatial and temporal information to neural progenitor cells. The deployment of morphogen gradients is an important strategy to impart spatial information to the field of responding cells. READ MORE

  2. 17. Methyltransferase Ash1, histone methylation and their impact on Polycomb repression

    Author : Eshagh Dorafshan Esfahani; Yuri B. Schwartz; Jan Larsson; Dale Dorsett; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Trithorax Group proteins; Polycomb Group proteins; PRC1; PRC2; PRE; histone methylation; histone ubiquitylation; Ash1; SET domain; H3K36; H3K27; Drosophila;

    Abstract : Antagonistic interactions between Polycomb Group (PcG) and Trithorax Group (TrxG) proteins orchestrate the expression of key developmental genes. Distinct maternally loaded repressors establish the silenced state of these genes in cells where they should not be expressed and later PcG proteins sense whether a target gene is inactive and maintain the repression throughout multiple cell divisions. 3. 18. Identification and characterization of novel genetic and epigenetic factors required for normal and malignant hematopoiesis

    Author : Yaser Heshmati; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a type of blood cancer, characterized by clonal expansion and loss of differentiation ability of myeloid progenitor cells leading to abnormal accumulation of immature myeloid cells (myeloblasts) in the bone marrow and peripheral blood. This thesis (study I to IV) focused on the identification and characterization of genes which are required for AML growth. READ MORE

  4. 19. Mechanisms of cell diversification

    Author : Christopher Winston Uhde; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Cell identity and function is determined by the intrinsic wiring of the gene regulatory network that endows progenitors with the competence to respond appropriately to extrinsic cues in a spatiotemporally-dependent manner. One such class of cues, morphogens, instruct cells in their identity by virtue of a concentration gradient, but how this is interpreted at gene regulatory levels to result in sharp and robust boundaries of gene expression is poorly understood. 5. 20. The role of Nkx proteins neuronal and glial specification

    Author : Anna Vallstedt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : During development, different classes of neurons and glia are generated from proliferative progenitor cells lining the ventricles of the brain and the lumen of the spinal cord. A central issue in developmental neuroscience is to understand the mechanisms by which these cells are generated in space and over time. READ MORE
