1. Effects of Complement Opsonization of HIV on Dendritic Cells : and Implications for the Immune Response
Abstract : Dendritic cells are key players during HIV pathogenesis, and shape both the immediate immune response at the site of infection as well as directing the adaptive immune response against the virus. HIV has developed a plethora of immune evasion mechanisms that hijack dendritic cell functions, suppressing their ability to mount an accurate immune response and exploiting them for efficient viral transfer to target T cells. 2. Immune response in human tonsil tissue
Abstract : Pathogenic mechanisms responsible for tonsillar hypertrophy (TH) in children suffering from obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) were studied and compared with children with recurrent tonsillitis (RT) and infectious mononucleosis (IM), respectively. In an initial study the clinical consequences of OSAS caused by TH was investigated. READ MORE

3. Mechanisms for immune escape in epithelial ovarian cancer
Abstract : Tumors develop mechanisms to subvert the immune system, constituting immune escape. Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), the deadliest of all gynecological malignancies, uses a variety of mechanisms to undermine immune surveillance, aiding its establishment and metastatic spreading. 4. Human embryonic stem cells for bone engineering applications
Abstract : The human skeleton represents the supporting structure of the organism and accounts for about 20 percent of the total body mass. Despite its intrinsic capacity to regenerate and self-repair, this ability is limited and repair therapies are needed in a large number of clinical cases. READ MORE
