  1. 1. Cellular Interactions with Extracellular Matrix During Development and in Muscle Disease

    Author : Carl-Fredrik Tiger; Anders Aspberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; integrin; laminin; collagen; muscle; tendon; skeleton; mouse; human; development; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Abstract : The formation and maintenance of tissues in multicellular animals are crucially dependent on cellular interactions with the extracellular matrix (ECM). Two different studies on such interactions are presented herein. READ MORE

  2. 2. Production Ergonomics: Identifying and managing risk in the design of high performance work systems

    Author : Patrick Neumann; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reumatologi; Organizational science; Organisationsteori; Production technology; Produktionsteknik; muskelsystem; Skelett; rheumatology locomotion; muscle system; Skeleton; Risk Assessment; Manufacturing; Musculoskeletal disorders; Human Factors; Organisational Development; Production System Design; Strategy;

    Abstract : Poor ergonomics in production systems can compromise performance and cause musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), which pose a huge cost to society, companies, and afflicted individuals. This thesis presents a research trajectory through the problem space by: 1) Identifying and quantifying workplace risk factors for MSDs, 2) Identifying how these risks may relate to production strategies, and 3) Developing an approach to integrating ergonomics into a companies’ regular development work. 3. 3. Human embryonic stem cells for bone engineering applications

    Author : Giuseppe Maria de Peppo; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human skeleton; bone; bone defects; bone regeneration; regenerative medicine; tissue engineering; biomaterials; scaffold; biocoral; titanium; osseointegration bioreactor; human stem cells; embryonic stem cells; mesenchymal stem cells; embryonic-derived progenitors; osteogenic differentiation; mineralization; immune response; in vitro; in vivo;

    Abstract : The human skeleton represents the supporting structure of the organism and accounts for about 20 percent of the total body mass. Despite its intrinsic capacity to regenerate and self-repair, this ability is limited and repair therapies are needed in a large number of clinical cases. READ MORE

  4. 4. Industrial development of car disassembly - ergonomics and system performance

    Author : Karolina Kazmierczak; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; physical workloads; production systems; muskelsystem; reumatologi; rheumatology locomotion; Skelett; muscle system; Skeleton; flow and human simulations; video-task analysis; rationalizations; car disassembly; musculoskeletal disorders; Technological sciences; Teknik;

    Abstract : A new EU directive on used vehicles has recently been introduced. It demands that for every scrapped car, at least 85% by weight must be recycled by the year 2006 and 95% by 2015. The current level is about 80%. The car disassembly industry was chosen as the study object of this thesis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Genetic and genomic analysis of arthritis regulating regions in human and mouse

    Author : Lina Olsson; Immunologi; []

    Abstract : Identifying genes involved in the disease pathways of complex diseases such as Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has been shown to be very difficult. Despite decades of research still only a handful of genes have been convincingly identified as risk genes. READ MORE
