  1. 1. Hunting Hydrogen : Structure-property relations in High Entropy Alloy-based metal hydrides

    Author : Gustav Ek; Martin Sahlberg; Ulrich Häussermann; William I.F. David; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrogen; metal-hydride; High Entropy Alloy; Chemistry with specialization in Inorganic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : Metal hydrides have many uses when switching the energy system from fossil fuels to renewable sources, such as rechargeable batteries, hydrogen storage, hydrogen compression and thermal storage. State of the art materials for these applications such as LaNi5 and TiFe, however, suffer certain limitations such as degradation during repeated hydrogen cycling and harsh activation conditions for initial hydrogen uptake, promoting the need for novel materials. 2. 2. Microphysical Properties of Snow Crystals Using Ground-Based In-Situ Instrumentation : Hunting Snowflakes

    Author : Sandra Vázquez Martín; Thomas Kuhn; Salomon Eliasson; Sandra Yuter; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atmosfärsvetenskap; Atmospheric science;

    Abstract : Understanding what happens to hydrometeors, such as atmospheric snow particles (ice crystals, snow crystals, and snowflakes) in clouds is crucial for improving meteorolog-ical forecast and climate models. Consequently, improved predictions of the precipitation amount reaching the ground (snowfall) require accurate knowledge of the microphysical properties of ice crystals, such as their size, cross-sectional area, shape, fall speed, and mass. 3. 3. Firearm deaths in Sweden : epidemiology with emphasis on accidental deaths and prevention

    Author : Mensura Junuzovic; Anders Eriksson; Patrik Midlöv; Louis Riddez; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Firearm; fatality; accidental; hunting; non-hunting; suicide; homicide; Forensic Medicine; rättsmedicin;

    Abstract : Prevention of firearm deaths and injuries is an important public health issue that may save human lives. The aim of this thesis was to investigate the epidemiology and attributes of accidental firearm fatalities in Sweden, and to provide a basis for further preventive measures. READ MORE

  4. 4. The use of stone and hunting of reindeer : a study of stone tool manufacture and hunting of large mammals in the central Scandes c. 6000-1 BC

    Author : Lena Holm; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; High mountains; hunter-gatherers; use of resources; stone tool manufacture; reindeer hunting; landscape use; seasonality;

    Abstract : The thesis raises questions concerning prehistoric conditions in a high mountain region in central Scandinavia; it focuses on the human use of stone and on hunting principally of reindeer. An analysis of how the stone material was utilized and an approach to how large mammals were hunted result in a synthesis describing one interpretation of how the vast landscape of a region in the central Scandinavian high mountains was used. 5. 5. Consequences of bushmeat hunting in tropical forests

    Author : Edu Efiom; Biodiversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tropical rainforests; bushmeat hunting; primates; seedling recruitment; interseedling competition; community composition; functional traits; ecosystem services; human livelihoods;

    Abstract : This thesis evaluates the effect of bushmeat hunting in southeastern Nigerian rainforests on: 1) adult tree, seedling, and animal community compositions 2) germination and survival among seedlings in association with competition 3) changes in community composition at multiple trophic levels 4) leaf nitrogen concentration (LNC), leaf mass per area (LMA) and stem specific density (SSD) 5) on human reliance on forest resources and rural people use forest resources. Data for the first four evaluations were obtained from surveys, manipulative experiments in seedling plots and collected leaf samples in three pairs of sites with high (hunted sites) and low (protected sites) hunting pressure but with similar adult tree composition.
