  1. 1. Towards a Novel Treatment of Huntington´s Disease

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Clinical Neuroscience

    Author : Mouna Esmaeilzadeh; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2011]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The function of the human brain is based on complex interactions between billions of neurons. The brain function declines as a result of normal aging, but is also disturbed in neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fluorescent thiophene-based ligands for detection and characterization of disease-associated protein aggregates

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Author : Therése Klingstedt; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2013]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this thesis the unique optical properties of fluorescent ligands termed luminescent conjugated oligothiophenes (LCOs) have been used to study a variety of protein aggregates associated with human protein misfolding disease. This heterogeneous group of diseases contains well known and fatal members such as Alzheimer´s and Huntington´s disease and the development of sensitive tools for the detection and characterization of protein aggregates is crucial for unravelling the complexity of these pathologies. 3. 3. Characterization of brn1.2 and corticotropin-releasing hormone genes in zebrafish

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Biosciences and Nutrition

    Author : Gayathri Chandrasekar; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2007]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The zebrafish (Danio rerio), a tropical fresh water fish originally found in the rivers of India and Bangladesh has become a popular vertebrate model system over the last decade. The rapid sequencing of the zebrafish genome together with the latest advances in forward and reverse genetics has made this model organism more fascinating as it can be used to decipher the genetic mechanisms involved in the vertebrate development.
