  1. 6. Hydrographic and morphologic processes at Falsterbo peninsula - Present conditions and future scenarios

    Author : Sten Blomgren; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydrogeology; Wave climate; Unconfined aquifer; Shore protection; Sea-level rise; Numerical modeling; Kriging; Groins; Flooding; Greenhouse effect; Digital elevation model; Beach erosion; Coastal morphology; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeologi; teknisk geologi; teknisk geografi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi;

    Abstract : Falsterbo Peninsula in the south-west corner of Sweden is low-lying and built up of unconsolidated sand. Vulnerability to high water levels and wave action is of concern for the 10,000 residents of the peninsula, especially in consideration of global warming as enhanced inundation and coastal erosion problems may ensue. 2. 7. Characterisation of Urban Rainfall in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

    Author : Mohamed Nor bin Desa Mohamed; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeology; velocity; vector; monsoon; Malaysia; thunderstorm; Hydrogeologi; teknisk geologi; teknisk geografi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi;

    Abstract : Rainfall characteristics of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, are studied in space and time; on a large scale, 550 km2, and long term scale to find out the monsoon influence, and on urban basin scale, 23 km2, to determine dynamic properties of rainfalls and spatial correlations, and on a point scale to determine the probabilities of very high rain intensities. The importance of spatial and temporal variability of rainfall was investigated applying cross correlation on long term historical rainfalls from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. READ MORE

  3. 8. Heavy metals in municipal solid waste deposits

    Author : Peter Flyhammar; Institutioner vid LTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; teknisk geologi; Hydrogeologi; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeology; substrate; transformation; emission; environment; MSW; heavy metals; accumulation; teknisk geografi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi; Environmental technology; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp;

    Abstract : Extensive use of heavy metals in modern society influences routes followed by fluxes on the surface of the Earth. The changed flow paths may be harmful for the balance of biological systems at different levels, micro-organisms, human beings and whole ecosystems, since the toxicity of heavy metals is determined by their concentrations and chemical forms. 4. 9. Transport of Arsenic and Heavy Metals to Lake Poopó - Bolivia Natural Leakage and Anthropogenic Effects

    Author : Maria Garcia Moreno; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydrogeology; Naturvetenskap; Natural science; Miljöstudier; Environmental studies; Poopó Lake; heavy metals; Bolivia; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeologi; teknisk geologi; teknisk geografi;

    Abstract : Bolivia, a country located in the center of South America, has in the west part an Andean region, where the Poopó Lake is located. The area has many mineral resources, and thus since thousands of years,mining activity has had a large importance; however, mainly since colonial times, the extraction of these resources has been indiscriminate and the region of the Poopó Lake, has suffered the consequences of environmental contamination.
