  1. 16. Strategies for postoperative adhesion control

    Author : Kristina Falk; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adhesion formation; adhesion prevention; experimental model; mouse; human; fibrinolysis; bioadhesion; cellulose; hydrophobic modification; t-PA; PAI-1; proCPU; TAFI;

    Abstract : Introduction: Abdominal surgery almost inevitably leads to adhesion formation, which often results in substantial morbidity. The formation of postsurgical adhesions seems to be determined by the balance of fibrin deposition and degradation in an early phase of peritoneal tissue repair. READ MORE

  2. 17. NMR diffusion studies on lyotropic liquid crystalline systems

    Author : Greger Orädd; Frank Volke; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Diffusion; pulsed field gradient; liquid crystalline systems; lipid lateral diffusion; cubic phases; peptide-lipid interactions; hydrophobic mismatch; permeability;

    Abstract : The pulsed field gradient fourier transform nuclear magnetic resonance (PFG-FTNMR) method to measure translational diffusion coefficients in multicomponent systems has been applied to amphiphilic molecules forming liquid crystalline phases.By analyzing the concentration dependence of the diffusion coefficients of water and amphiphile in a micellar system of N,N-dimethyldodecy lamine oxide (DDAO) in water it was possible to conclude that the micelles formed were polydisperse in size and shape. 3. 18. Lipid-based liquid crystals as drug delivery vehicles for antimicrobial peptides

    Author : Lukas Boge; Martin Andersson; Lovisa Ringstad; RISE; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Liquid crystals; liquid crystalline nanoparticles; cubosome; hexosome; phase behavior; antimicrobial peptide; AMP; glycerol monooleate; proteolysis; antimicrobial effect; antimicrobial resistance; bacterial membrane; membrane interaction; infection; topical delivery; pulmonary delivery;

    Abstract : The development of antimicrobial resistance is a great challenge within health sectors worldwide. Thus, demand for new, efficient treatments is urgent in order to treat various bacterial infections. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are a group of antibiotics that have gained more and more attraction in the past decade. READ MORE

  4. 19. Molecular Recognition Studies Based on Imprinting Technology

    Author : Cong Yu; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; imprinting; molecular recognition; polymer; chiral separation; acrylamide; chromatography; functional monomer; cross-linking; hydrogen bonding; hydrophobic interactions; aqueous media; solvent; antibody; mimics; receptor; artificial enzyme; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; Biokemi; Metabolism; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I have focused on five main research areas: 1). A new type of imprinted polymer has been developed, namely the amide MIP. The amide functional monomers showed better hydrogen bonding capabilities in polar organic solvents and the resulting polymers exhibited good enantiomeric recognition properties in organic media. 5. 20. Partitioning of Drugs and Lignin Precursor Models into Artificial Membranes

    Author : Elisabet Boija; Gunnar Johansson; Per Lundahl; Christine Lagerquist Hägglund; Marja-Liisa Riekkola; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biochemistry; Bilayer disk; Capillary electrophoresis; Detergent; Drug; Electrostatic interaction; Hydrophobic interaction; Immobilized liposome chromatography; Lignin; Lignin precursor model; Liposome; Membrane model; Octanol water partitioning; Partitioning; Phospholipid; Phospholipid bilayer; Sterol; Biokemi;

    Abstract : The main aim of this thesis was to characterize membrane-solute interactions using artificial membranes in immobilized liposome chromatography or capillary electrophoresis. The partitioning of a solute into a cell membrane is an essential step in diffusion across the membrane. READ MORE
