1. Association of hydrophobic organic compounds to organic material in the soil system
Abstract : Contaminated soils and sediments have been identified as significant secondary sources of organic contaminants. Leaching tests may be useful tools to estimate the mobility of contaminants via the water phase and thereby the risk for groundwater and surface water contamination. READ MORE

2. Production, purification and characterization of antibacterial biomolecules from an alkaliphilic Bacillus
Abstract : Forty alkaliphiles, which were isolated from samples collected in Eastern Africa, have been screened for production of antibacterial compounds. One of these isolates, Bacillus halodurans B20, was able to produce a prominent amount of antibacterial activity against a Gram-positive bacteria on agar plates [paper I] and selected for further study. 3. Synthesis of oligosaccharides and conformational analysis by NMR spectroscopy
Abstract : The first part of this thesis describes investigations of the conformations of six N-linked pseudodisaccharides (Paper I), which were synthesized as glycosidase inhibitor candidates, and 10 β-D-xylopyranoside derivatives bearing hydrophobic aglycons (Paper II), by NMR spectroscopic methods. In paper I the ring conformations of 2- and 3-amino-α-D-altropyranosides, and ω torsions of altrosides, glucosides and mannosides were described, in neutral and protonated states. READ MORE

4. Synthesis of Polyhydroxylated Surfactants : Comparison of Surfactant Stereoisomers and Investigation of Haemolytic Activity
READ MORE

5. Preparation and Application of Functionalized Protein Fibrils
Abstract : Many proteins have an innate ability to self-assemble into fibrous structures known as amyloid fibrils. From a material science perspective, fibrils have several interesting characteristics, including a high stability, a distinct shape and tunable surface properties. READ MORE
