  1. 1. Material Properties of Bulk Hydrophobic Concrete in a Nordic Environment

    Author : Patrick Rogers; Johan Silfwerbrand; Tang Luping; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; alkyl alkoxysilane; capillary suction; chloride ingress; concrete; hydrophobic agents; triacylglycerides; Betongbyggnad; Concrete Structures;

    Abstract : Concrete in its unaltered form allows the mass transfer of fluids into and out of its microstructure. These fluids can contain detrimental solutes which change the chemistry of the cement paste and/or the corrosion properties of the reinforcement bars, most noticeably hydrogen carbonates (HCO3-), oxygen (O2) and chloride ions (Cl-). 2. 2. Production and delivery of recombinant subunit vaccines

    Author : Christin Andersson; KTH; []
    Keywords : Affibody; Affinity chromatography; Affinity purification; DNA immunization; Expression plasmid; Fusion protein; Hydrophobic tag; Iscoms; Lipid tagging; Malaria; Mammalian cell expression; Recombinant immunogen; Respiratory Syncytial Virus; Semliki Fo;

    Abstract : Recombinant strategies are today dominating in thedevelopment of modern subunit vaccines. This thesis describesstrategies for the production and recovery of protein subunitimmunogens, and how genetic design of the expression vectorscan be used to adapt the immunogens for incorporation intoadjuvant systems. 3. 3. Hydrophobic Interactions in Bioseparation - Applications of Modified Green Fluorescent Protein

    Author : Kristian Becker; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : Hydrophobic interaction chromatography; capillary electrochromatography; E. coli; isolation tags; haemoglobin; green fluorescent protein; retention prediction; genetic engineering; accessible surface area;

    Abstract : This thesis describes interactions that are salt-promoted and mainly based on the hydrophobicity of proteins. A series of variants of the green fluorescent protein (GFP) was first constructed by site-directed mutagenesis. Several tags with various properties were then genetically fused to the N-terminus of GFP. READ MORE

  4. 4. HYDROPHOBIC PEPTIDE TAGS - As tools in bioseparation and investigation of recombinant proteins

    Author : Sara Fexby; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; E. coli; Biochemical technology; Biokemisk teknik; fusion protein; tyrosine; hydrophobicity; Hydrophobic interaction chromatography; aqueous two-phase system;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the possibility of using hydrophobic peptide tags as tools for bioseparation and for the investigation of recombinant proteins. The hydrophobicity of a protein can easily be changed by minor modifications, such as fusions of tyrosine-containing peptides. READ MORE

  5. 5. Hydrophobic Fusion Tags: Implications For Bioseparation and Cellular Expression

    Author : Anna Collén; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein production; secretion; aqueous two-phase systems; Trichoderma reesei; endoglucanase; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Abstract : The studies in this thesis have shown that the partitioning of endoglucanase I (EGI, Cel7B) from T. reesei could be significantly improved by relatively minor genetic engineering. By adding short peptides composed of tryptophan and proline residues to EGI, extreme partitioning could be obtained. READ MORE
