  1. 1. Spark Plasma Sintering Enhancing Grain Sliding, Deformation and Grain Size Control : Studies of the Systems Ti, Ti/TiB2, Na0.5 K0.5 NbO3, and Hydroxyapatite

    Author : Mirva Eriksson; Zhijian Shen; Takashi Goto; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Spark plasma sintering; plastic deformation; grain growth; titanium; TiB2; hydroxyapatite; Na0.5K0.5NbO3; ferroelectric; transparent; Materials chemistry; Materialkemi; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Abstract : The unique features of the Spark plasma sintering (SPS) were used to investigate the sintering and deformation behaviour of titanium and titanium–titanium diboride composites, and to control the sintering and grain growth of ferroelectric Na0.5K0.5NbO3 (NKN) and of hydroxyapatite (HAp). 2. 2. Bio-Nano Interactions : Synthesis, Functionalization and Characterization of Biomaterial Interfaces

    Author : Yixiao Cai; Xia Wei; Mikael Karlsson; Martin Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Bioactive surfaces; nanocrystalline diamond; hydroxyapatite; protein secondary structure; protein absorption; auditory neurons; single crystalline rutile; nano morphology; surface functionalisation; in vitro biomineralisation; translucent nano-ceramics; bio-window material; material characterisation.; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot materialvetenskap; Engineering Science with specialization in Materials Science;

    Abstract : Current strategies for designing biomaterials involve creating materials and interfaces that interact with biomolecules, cells and tissues.  This thesis aims to investigate several bioactive surfaces, such as nanocrystalline diamond (NCD), hydroxyapatite (HA) and single crystalline titanium dioxide, in terms of material synthesis, surface functionalization and characterization. 3. 3. Biomaterial Components Prepared by Titanium Powder Technology

    Author : Mikael Eriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; dental; coping; biomaterial; titanium-hydroxyapatite composite; crown; cold isostatic pressing; deformation; titanium powder; high velocity compaction; powder metallurgy;

    Abstract : The main objectives of this work were twofold: First, to determine if a pressed-powder method could be used to fabricate titanium dental copings, and to line out what problems or benefits this new method would have. Second, to test if high velocity compaction of titanium powder could be used to form biomaterial components such as copings or dental implants. READ MORE

  4. 4. Phase Stability and Preparations of Oxide-Apatite Composites

    Author : Erik Adolfsson; Bengt Kasemo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; oorganisk kemi; Inorganic Chemistry;

    Abstract : In the preparation of bioactive composites containing hydroxyapatite, Ca5(PO4)3(OH), and an oxide it has been a problem to prevent the hydroxyapatite from decomposing in the sintering process. This is because H2O is evolved when hydroxyapatite is heated, implying that the occupied OH- positions in hydroxyapatite structure are partly replaced by vacancies and O2- ions. READ MORE
