  1. 1. Inflammation and ischemia in the developing brain - modifying effects of hyperoxia and adrenoceptor activation

    Author : Tina Markus; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adrenergic; preconditioning; excitotoxicity; tissue culture; hyperoxia; resuscitation; asphyxia; sensitization; TNF-alpha; inflammatory mediators; hippocampus; neonate;

    Abstract : Inflammation and ischemia are common causes of perinatal brain damage. Ventilation with pure oxygen has previously been the prime choice during resuscitation following fetal asphyxia. READ MORE

  2. 2. Myocardial protection by hyperoxia

    Author : Peeter Tähepõld; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Oxygen is essential for normal respiration in aerobic organisms, and prolonged deficit of oxygen always has detrimental consequences.However, all aerobic life forms are faced with the threat of oxidation from molecular oxygen. READ MORE

  3. 3. Lung hyaluronan and lung water in the perinatal period

    Author : Hans Johnsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; antenatal corticosteroids; antenatal terbutaline; hyaluronan; hyperoxia; lung water; perinatal period; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Abstract : Hyaluronan is an important component of the lung extracellular matrix, with a high capacity for water immobilization, but information on perinatal changes in the lung hyaluronan concentration and their association with changes in the lung water content is limited. In this study, conducted both in rabbit pups and in human infants, we investigated changes in the hyaluronan concentration and distribution in the lung and in the lung water content after preterm or term birth, and changes produced by common antenatal and postnatal pathological conditions and treatments. 4. 4. The significance of mitochondrial respiratory function in regulating oxygen uptake and performance in humans

    Author : Daniele A. Cardinale; Filip J Larsen; David Bishop; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mitochondria; OXPHOS; p50mito; mitochondrial oxygen affinity; oxygen extraction; sex difference; hyperoxia; training; muscle metabolism; performance; HIIT; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Abstract : The mitochondrion is one of the most fascinating organelles of our cells which has kept and keeps researchers busy in studying its origin, the complex morphology, the numerous functions, the rapid adaptations to a variety of stimuli and its role in health and disease. Exercise challenges cellular homeostasis and skeletal muscle mitochondria greatly adapt to repeated bouts of exercise by increasing mitochondrial respiratory function and content to match energy requirements and to better sustain future perturbations induced by muscle contractions. 5. 5. Cardiovascular response to hyperoxemia, hemodilution and burns : a clinical and experimental study

    Author : Zoltan Bak; Birgitta Janerot Sjöberg; Robert Hahn; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anesthesia; general; Burns; Echocardiography; transesophageal; Hemodilution; emodynamic processes; Hyperoxia; Intensive care; Intensivvård;

    Abstract : The last decades less invasive monitoring and analytical tools have been developed for the evaluation of myocardial mechanics in clinical praxis. In critical care, these are longed-for complements to pulmonary artery catheter monitoring, additionally offering previously inaccessible information. READ MORE
