1. Development and Applications of Hypervalent Iodine Compounds : Powerful Arylation and Oxidation Reagents
Abstract : The first part of this thesis describes the efficient synthesis of several hypervalent iodine(III) compounds. Electron-rich diaryliodonium salts have been synthesized in a one-pot procedure, employing mCPBA as the oxidant. Both symmetric and unsymmetric diaryliodonium tosylates can be isolated in high yields. READ MORE

2. Synthetic and Mechanistic Studies with Iodine(III) Reagents
Abstract : This thesis describes the development of metal-free transformations and mechanistic studies on the reactivity of two classes of hypervalent iodine reagents: diaryliodonium salts and vinylbenziodoxolones (VBX). Recently, they have been recognized as valuable synthetic reagents with broad applicability in organic synthesis. READ MORE

3. Hypervalent Iodine Reagents in Metal-Free Arylations and Vinylations : Investigation of Suitable Coupling Partners and Synthesis of New Reagents
Abstract : This thesis concerns the development of metal-free reactions to obtain carbon-heteroatom and carbon-carbon bonds. This is achieved by transferring carbon ligands from hypervalent iodine reagents to suitable nucleophiles. READ MORE

4. Novel Applications of Benziodoxole Reagents in the Synthesis of Organofluorine Compounds
Abstract : This thesis concerns method development of new synthetic routes by applying electrophilic hypervalent iodine reagents, such as trifluoromethyl-benziodoxole (Togni reagent) and fluoro-benziodoxole. The first project involved the addition of an oxygen moiety and trifluoromethyl group across double and triple bonds (both groups derived from the hypervalent iodine reagent). READ MORE

5. Development of new Fluorination Methods Directed to Fluorine-18 Labelling
Abstract : This thesis deals with the development of new fluorination reactions and their application to fluorine-18 labelling. Fluorine-18 labelled compounds are employed as tracers in Positron Emission Tomography (PET), which is a powerful non-invasive imaging method in medical diagnostics. READ MORE
