  1. 21. Multiphase models for freeze-thaw actions and mass transport in concrete hydraulic structures

    Author : Daniel Eriksson; Anders Ansell; Richard Malm; Erik Nordström; Stefan Jacobsen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Degradation; Hydraulic structures; Air-entrained concrete; Multiphase models; Multiphysics; Long-term moisture conditions; Freeze-thaw; Hysteresis; Absorption; Calcium leaching; Finite Element Method; Concrete Structures; Betongbyggnad;

    Abstract : A crucial task for civil engineers is to make appropriate designs of new concrete structures and assessments of existing structures to ensure a long service life and sustainable use of the infrastructure. This doctoral thesis aims to increase the understanding of how advanced mathematical models can be used to describe phenomena and processes governing concrete degradation and thereby ultimately contribute to improving tools for design and assessments. 2. 22. Crystal chemistry of Fe-Ti oxides in mafic rocks and metabasites: A study aimed at refinement of geological tools and interpretations

    Author : Benyam Estifanos; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fe-Ti oxide; hercynite; siderite; stilpnomelane; olivine corona; Swedish Caledonides; hysteresis; PIXE; synchrotron XRD; Rietveld; microprobe; red corundum; palaeomagnetism; eclogite; plagioclase clouding; dolerite; pyroxene gneiss; Geology; physical geography; Geologi; fysisk geografi;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of four subprojects: (A) ‘Clouding of plagioclase by Fe-Ti oxides’, (B) ‘Fe-Ti oxides during high-pressure metamorphism of mafic rocks’, (C) ‘Magnetic study of Fe-Ti oxides in mafic rocks and metabasites’, and (D) ‘Topotactic phase transitions in oxide minerals’. A) In southern Sweden dolerite dikes and gabbros with clouded plagioclase are common. READ MORE

  3. 23. Electrical Characterisation of III-V Nanowire MOSFETs

    Author : Markus Hellenbrand; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MOSFET; TFET; III-V; Nanowire; Hysteresis; Low-Frequency Noise; Random Telegraph Noise; cryogenic; Reliability; Radio Frequency; Small-Signal Model;

    Abstract : The ever increasing demand for faster and more energy-efficient electricalcomputation and communication presents severe challenges for the semiconductor industry and particularly for the metal-oxidesemiconductorfield-effect transistor (MOSFET), which is the workhorse of modern electronics. III-V materials exhibit higher carrier mobilities than the most commonly used MOSFET material Si so that the realisation of III-V MOSFETs can enable higher operation speeds and lower drive voltages than that which is possible in Si electronics. 4. 24. On the Modelling of Mechanical Dewatering in Papermaking

    Author : Vinicius Lobosco; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; paper; modelling; dewatering; forming; wet pressing; fibre network stress; rheology; hysteresis; intra-fibre water; compressibility; structural stress; stress-strain; restricted gels; swelling;

    Abstract : Most of the water fed into a paper machine is removedmechanically in the forming and press sections. One of thefactor which has an important influence on mechanicaldewatering, i.e. in both forming and pressing, is thestress-strain behaviour of the fibre network. READ MORE

  5. 25. Redistribution of moisture and ions in cement based materials

    Author : Magnus Åhs; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Moisture redistribution; ion redistribution; cement based materials; hysteresis; sorption isotherm; scanning;

    Abstract : There were two principal objectives for this thesis. The first was to develop a methodology and evaluation model of moisture redistribution in order to make the future relative humidity in a screeded concrete slab predictable. The second objective was to develop a method to determine the critical humidity for ion transport in concrete. READ MORE
