  1. 1. Antigen-specific islet antibodies: prediction of beta cell failure and differentiation between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes

    Author : Henrik Borg; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; Endokrinologi; secreting systems; Endocrinology; seropositive; seronegative; slowly-progressive; Type 2; Type 1; classification; IA-2A; IA-2; GADA; GAD; ICA; islet antibodies; C-peptide; beta cell function; diabetes mellitus; adult-onset; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : Autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase (GADA), protein tyrosine-phosphatase-like protein (IAÐ2A), and/or pancreatic islet cells (ICA) are autoimmune markers usually present at diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is therefore in general believed to be caused by an immune-mediated beta cell destruction. READ MORE

  2. 2. Aspects of ZnT8 autoimmunity in childhood type 1 diabetes

    Author : Cecilia K Andersson; Pediatrisk endokrinologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; Zinc transporter; ZnT8 autoantibodies; HLA; islet cell autoantibodies; GAD65 autoantibodies; IA-2 autoantibodies; insulin autoantibodies; glucose tolerance;

    Abstract : Type 1 diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases in childhood and adolescence with an increasing incidence worldwide. It is an autoimmune disease with many autoimmune markers, where the zinc transporter 8 autoantibody (ZnT8A) is the most recent autoantibody discovered. READ MORE

  3. 3. Organ-specific autoantibodies in Addison's disease and autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome type I

    Author : Annika Söderbergh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Addison s disease; APS I; Down syndrome; AIRE; autoantibodies; autoantigens; autoimmunity; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : Assessment of autoantibodies is a valuable tool in the diagnostic procedure of autoimmune diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of different autoantibodies and their associations with disease manifestations in patients with Addison's disease and autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome type I (APS I). 4. 4. Autoimmune markers in autoimmune diabetes

    Author : Manu Gupta; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : HLA; MICA; type 1 diabetes; LADA; Coxsackie virus B; autoantibodies; newborn screening;

    Abstract : Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is an autoimmune disease, characterized by autoimmune mediated loss of insulin secreting Beta-cells. The disease is associated with certain HLA class 11 haplotypes. HLA DR3-DQ2 and DR4-DQ8 are positively while DQ6 (DQA1*0102-DQB1*0602) is negatively associated with the disease in Caucasians. 5. 5. Studies on autoimmune diabetes in Latvians and other populations

    Author : Aija Shtauvere-Braméus; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : IDDM is an autoimmune disease, characterized by autoimmune mediated loss of insulin secreting B- cells. GAD65 and IA-2 are major B-cell specific autoantibodies and are not found in healthy population. IDDM is associated with certain HLA class II alleles. IDDM is positively associated with HLA DR3 and DR4 in Caucasians. READ MORE
