7. Tumour Biological Factors Characterizing Metastasizing Serotonin-producing Ileocaecal Carcinoids
Abstract : In this study, metastasizing serotonin-producing ileocaecal carcinoid tumours (MSPCs) were examined for biological characteristics that could be used to define clinically relevant subgroups within this patient population. Possible targets for new treatment options were also explored. READ MORE

8. The genetic background of gestational diabetes mellitus
Abstract : The aims of this work is to better determine the genetic background of gestational diabetes (GDM) and to examine how specific genes affect the development of diabetes post partum. In the DiPiS (Diabetes Prediction in Skåne) study we typed for HLA-DQB1 alleled, the transcription factor 7-like 2(TCF7L2) rs7903146, rs12255372 and rs7901695 SNPs, the 1858 C>T SNP of the protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor 22 (PTPN22) gene and we tested for the presence of islet cell autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase 65 (GAD65), insulinoma-associated antigen 2 (IA-2) and insulin in women who had been diagnosed with GDM at least once during 2000-2004. 9. The Importance of CTLA-4 and HLA Class II for Type 1 Diabetes Immunology
Abstract : Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) is a serious chronic disease that results from an autoimmune destruction of the insulin-producing beta cells. Sweden has the second highest incidence of T1D in the world, and it affects more and more children each year. Genes controlling key functions of the immune system regulation of autoimmunity has been associated to T1D. READ MORE

10. Towards Immunotherapy of Midgut Carcinoid Tumors
Abstract : Classical midgut carcinoids belong to neuroendocrine tumors of the gastroenteropancreatic tract (GEP-NETs) and are associated with serotonin overproduction. The term midgut is derived from the tumors’ embryological site of origin: enterochromaffin cells in the lower jejunum, ileum, caecum and the ascending colon. READ MORE
