  1. 1. Effect of Ventilatory Support on Abdominal Fluid Balance in a Sepsis Model

    Author : Marco Lattuada; Göran Hedenstierna; Filip Fredén; Anders Oldner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mechanical ventilation; lymph flow; spontaneous breathing; positive end-expiratory pressure; PEEP; abdominal edema; inflammation; intra-abdominal pressure; IAP; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care; Clinical Physiology; Klinisk fysiologi;

    Abstract : In patients affected by acute respiratory failure or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) the leading cause of death is failure of different vital organs other than the lungs, so called multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). The abdominal organs have a crucial role in the pathogenesis of this syndrome. READ MORE

  2. 2. Roles of protein kinase C in cell death and breast cancer

    Author : Louise Cornmark; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; breast cancer; protein kinase C; apoptosis; cell death; Smac; Smac mimetics; IAP; stanniocalcin-1;

    Abstract : Aberrant protein kinase C (PKC) activity and expression is implicated in different malignancies. To study the role of different PKC isoforms in breast cancer the expression of PCKα, δ and ε was evaluated in breast cancer tumors. In addition the effect of siRNA-mediated knockdown of the isoforms was studied in a global gene expression analysis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mechanisms of Sensitization to Apoptosis in Multiple Myeloma

    Author : Anna Hammarberg; Helena Jernberg Wiklund; Kenneth Nilsson; Federico Caligaris-Cappio; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Pathology; multiple myeloma; apoptosis; IGF-1; mTOR; IAP; GSK3; rapamycin; PPP; dexamethasone; CT99021; Patologi;

    Abstract : Multiple myeloma (MM) is a hematological tumor of plasma blast/plasma cell origin heterogeneous with respect to the morphological differentiation stage of the tumor cells, genetic alterations and course of disease. A challenge in MM research is to overcome resistance to therapy, which inevitably arises. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the role of transversus abdominis in trunk motor control

    Author : Martin Eriksson Crommert; Peter Engfeldt; Alf Thorstensson; Maria Ekblom; Birgitta Öberg; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : transversus abdominis; trunk muscles; EMG; intramuscular; IAP; motor control; postural control; spine stability; postural demand; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : All trunk muscles are important contributors to spine stability. However, the deepest abdominal muscle, transversus abdominis (TrA), with its characteristically horizontal fibre orientation seems to serve a unique function in trunk motor control. READ MORE

  5. 5. Apoptosis Regulation in Multiple Myeloma

    Author : Lina Dimberg; Helena Jernberg Wiklund; Kenneth Nilsson; Marie Arsenian Henriksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biomedicine; multiple myeloma; apoptosis; survival; IFN; Stat1; Stat3; IGF-I; RTK inhibitor; PPP; IAP; Fas CD95; dexamethasone; Biomedicin;

    Abstract : Multiple myeloma (MM) is a virtually incurable B cell malignancy of the bone marrow. One important part of tumor progression and an obstacle for successful therapy is resistance to apoptosis. To combat this resistance, the mechanisms of apoptosis and survival in MM must be better defined. READ MORE
