  1. 1. Translational Tumor Drug Delivery : Doxorubicin formulation performance, intracellular uptake and molecular diffusion

    Author : Oliver Degerstedt; Hans Lennernäs; Erik Sjögren; Per Hansson; Jessica Rosenholm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; doxorubicin; drug diffusion; cellular uptake; drug delivery; PBPK modelling; hepatocellular carcinoma; emulsion; IC50; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Abstract : Globally, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common form of liver cancer and a leading cause of cancer death. One important risk factor is liver cirrhosis and the disease progression is characterized by deposition of extracellular matrix proteins that form a fibrous network, which increases liver stiffness and may limit the effectiveness of different treatment strategies. 2. 2. Anthracyclines : Toxicity and chemotherapy-induced mucositis

    Author : Fredrik Kullenberg; Hans Lennernäs; Erik Sjögren; David Dahlgren; Femke Heindryckx; Henrik Rönnberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anthracycline; doxorubicin; idarubicin; toxicity; intracellular concentration; IC50; chemotherapy-induced mucositis; apoptosis; proliferation; permeability; anti-inflammatory drugs; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Abstract : Anthracyclines belong to a class of cytostatic compounds that are commonly used to treat various types of cancers, including lymphoma, breast cancer and primary liver cancer. The aim of this thesis was to study how two anthracyclines, doxorubicin and idarubicin, induced cytotoxicity in tumor cells, as well as their off-target effect on the gastrointestinal system. 3. 3. Secondary Metabolites from Mozambican Plants

    Author : Julião Monjane; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : Secondary metabolites; Mozambique; Medicinal plants; Isolation; Structural elucidation; Antileishmanial activity;

    Abstract : Products derived from different natural sources have been used for thousands of years by human beings for their everyday needs. Out of these natural sources, plants were the most affordable. Plant-derived products were used for shelter, food, and as medicines. READ MORE

  4. 4. Synthesis and structure activity relationship studies of non-nucleoside HIV-1 reverse transcriptase inhibitors

    Author : Marita Högberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Organic Pharmaceutical Chemistry; organisk farmaceutisk kemi;

    Abstract : HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) is a target for anti-HIV chemotherapy. A series of PETT PhenylEthylThiazoleThiourea) non-nucleoside HIV-1 RT inhibitors were synthesised. All compounds were tested in an HIV-1 RT enzyme assay, and in cell culture using MT-4 cells and wild-type virus. READ MORE

    Abstract : This thesis examines the isolation and characterisation (biological and chemical) of polypeptides from plants. A fractionation protocol was developed and applied on 100 plant materials with the aim of isolating highly purified polypeptide fractions from small amounts of plant materials. READ MORE
