  1. 21. Effects of Ageing and Physical Activity on Regulation of Muscle Contraction

    Author : Alexander Cristea; Lars Larsson; Anna-Stina Höglund; Ingrid Lundberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; ageing; sarcopenia; sprint training; progressive resistance training; in vivo function; isokinetic dynamometer; in vitro function; single permeabilised fibre; myonuclear domain; confocal microscopy; Medicine; Medicin;

    Abstract : The aims of this study were to investigate the mechanisms underlying (1) the ageing-related motor handicap at the whole muscle, cellular, contractile protein and myonuclear levels; and (2) ageing-related differences in muscle adaptability.In vivo muscles function was studied in the knee extensors. 2. 22. Retroperitoneal lymph node dissection for non-seminomatous germ cell tumour

    Author : Axel Gerdtsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: The Swedish and Norwegian Testicular Cancer Group (SWENOTECA) is a multidisciplinary collaboration with an aim to improve the testicular cancer care for patients in Sweden and Norway by publishing guidelines, include patients in the SWENOTECA register and promote research. In 2007, SWENOTECA initiated RETROP, a multicenter study on nonseminomatous germ cell tumour (NSGCT) patients that are operated with post-chemotherapy retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (PC-RPLND). 3. 23. Arithmetic and Hyperbolic Structures in String Theory

    Author : Daniel Persson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Instantons; Kac-Moody algebras; Spacelike singularities; String Theory;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of an introductory text followed by two separate parts which may be read independently of each other. In Part I we analyze certain hyperbolic structures arising when studying gravity in the vicinity of spacelike singularities (the BKL-limit). READ MORE

  4. 24. Characterization of Impaired Glucose Tolerance - Insulin Sensitivity, Islet Function and Metabolic Risk Factors

    Author : Hillevi Larsson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; muscle fiber type; androgen activity; proinsulin; glucagon; insulin secretion; insulin sensitivity; Impaired glucose tolerance; type 2 diabetes; sekretion; diabetologi; Endokrinologi; diabetology; secreting systems;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a three-year prospective study on metabolic characteristics of impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and the regulation of insulin sensitivity versus islet function in relation to changes in glucose tolerance. 108 non-diabetic women aged 57-58 years were randomly selected from a population of women born in 1935 with a high prevalence of IGT. 5. 25. Profilins : The Control of the Microfilament and Microtubule systems

    Author : Michaela Nejedla; Roger Karlsson; Klemens Rottner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Profilin; Actin; Microtubules; Cell Biology; cellbiologi;

    Abstract : The microtubule and actin filament systems are important for many cellular processes such as intracellular organelle trafficking, cell adhesion, migration and mitosis. The two filament systems are closely connected, operate in parallel and are essential for proper cell function. READ MORE
