16. Biomarkers in chronic and experimental human muscle pain
Abstract : The main aim of this thesis was to improve the knowledge ofthe peripheral mechanisms that may participate in the underlying pathophysiology of chronic temporomandibular disorders (TMD) myalgia i.e. pain that is experienced locally in the jaw muscles and has myofascial trigger points. 17. Bone Development and the Nervous System
Abstract : Innervation of bone influence bone modeling, growth and remodeling. Pro-inflammatory cytokines released after tissue trauma are recognized as neurotrophic factors as well as factors influencing bone formation. The Wnt signaling pathway, essential for cell migration during embryogenesis is found to influence bone formation during fracture healing. READ MORE

18. Cytokine regulation of pancreatic -cell function with special reference to the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes
Abstract : Cytokines produced by inflammatory cells have been implicated in the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes. The overall aim of the present work was to test how different cytokines, supposed to be present in the insulitic lesion, could influence the function of islets of Langerhans. READ MORE

19. Effects of inflammatory mediators on human osteoblasts
Abstract : Inflammatory mediators produced in or adjacent to bone have implications on bone and may induce both osteolysis and/or osteosclerosis. Inflammatory cytokines mediate these effects by acting either directly or indirectly on the bone cells. READ MORE

20. Cytokine studies in the generation and treatment of IgE-mediated allergy
Abstract : So called Th2 cytokines, such as IL-4 and IL-13 are responsible for the formation of IgE antibodies, the effector antibody in atopic allergy. Cytokines of Th1 type, for example IFN-g, inhibit these responses. This thesis describes work aimed at elucidating the cytokine production underlying IgE-mediated allergy. READ MORE
