  1. 6. Effect of IL-1beta secretion on lymphoid tissue and on antitumor immune responses

    Author : Olle Björkdahl; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serologi; Immunologi; transplantation; Immunology; serology;

    Abstract : Interleukin (IL)-1beta is one of the most pleiotropic and potent cytokines, produced predominantly by activated monocytes and macrophages. IL-1 plays an important role in normal immunoregulatory processes but also in pathophysiological inflammatory responses. In the present study, we developed a model for active IL-1beta secretion. 2. 7. Invasion promoting factors in endometriotic and endometrial tissue

    Author : Christina Bruse; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Endometriosis; endometrium; PF; tPA; uPA; uPAR; PAI-1; PAI-2; IL-1beta; IL-6; TNFalpha.;

    Abstract : Endometriosis is a common gynaecologic disorder, affecting women of fertile age with pelvic pain and infertility, and is characterized by the presence of endometrial glands and stroma outside the uterine cavity. Retrograde shed endometrial fragments are presumed to adhere to pelvic structures and grow invasively, thereby creating endometriotic tissue. READ MORE

  3. 8. Immune mechanisms in atherosclerosis

    Author : Ejaz Ahmed; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : atherosclerosis; diabetes; stroke; rheumatoid arthritis; autoantibodies; anticardiolipin; oxidized LDL; hypercholesterolernia; IFN-gamma TNF-alpha IL-1beta IL-1Ra.;

    Abstract : Atherosclerosis is a multifactorial chronic inflammatory disorder. Humoral immune factors as anticardiolipin antibodies (aCL), anti-oxLDL antibodies, circulating immune complexes (CICs), and proinflammatory cytokines such as IFN-gamma, TNF-alpha and EL-1beta have been implicated in atherogenesis. 4. 9. Cytokine induced airway hyperreactivity characterized in an in-vitro model of asthma

    Author : Yaping Zhang; Klinisk och experimentell allergiforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; MAPK; TNF-alpha; 5-HT; Respiratory system; Andningsorganen; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; interleukin-1beta; hyperresponsiveness; endothelin-1; airway; bradykinin; toxikologi; farmaci;

    Abstract : Asthma is a chronic disorder of the lower airways, characterized by inflammation and hyperreactivity. Pro-inflammatory cytokines like tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) are known to play important roles in the pathogenesis, but our knowledge how these cytokines contribute to the development of airway hyperreactivity is limited. 5. 10. Molecular basis for the anti-inflammatory properties of chlomethiazole

    Author : Anastasia Simi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Stroke; neuroprotection; p38 MAP kinase; chlomethiazole; interleukin-1; c-fos; inflammation; glia; lipopolysaccharide; molecular mechanisms; ischaemia;

    Abstract : Chlomethiazole (CMZ) exerts neuroprotective effects in animal models of stroke, and its clinical efficacy is currently evaluated in acute stroke patients. CMZ also protects the liver from alcohol- induced oxidative damage by inhibiting the cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1), as well as inflammation associated with alcohol liver disease (ALD) by inhibiting cytokine expression.
