21. Microscopy-based single-cell in vitro assays for NK cell function in 2-D and 3-D
Abstract : Natural killer (NK) cells are effector cells of the innate immune system that are responsible for mediating cellular cytotoxicity against virally infected or neoplastically transformed cells. NK cell subsets are defined by their expression of certain cell-surface markers, and are usually related to activation and developmental status. READ MORE

22. An experimental study on the interaction between the neuro-endocrine and immune systems in the gastrointestinal tract
Abstract : The mucosa lining of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract is in immediate contact with food nutrients to allow a rapid and efficient digestion and absorption and at the same time protects against the incessant risk of attack from pathogenic microbes. Maintenance of normal physiological activities in the GI tract is dependent on a number of regulatory interactions between the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems, as well as environmental and genetic factors. 23. Therapeutic potential of natural killer cells in multiple myeloma
Abstract : Multiple Myeloma (MM) is an incurable plasma cell neoplasm with a median length of survival after diagnosis of approximately three years; therefore new treatment modalities to eradicate the disease are needed. Although the disease remains incurable, current main alternatives are drug treatment modalities and autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT). READ MORE

24. Influence of FK506 on certain aspects of lymphocyte activation and lymphocyte-endothelial cell interactions in vitro
Abstract : In the present thesis, the influence of the immunosuppressive drug FK506 on mitogen-induced changes in the expression of subunits a and ß of the IL-2 receptor by isolated human peripheral blood mononuclear cells has been studied. Up-regulation and release of the a-chain were potently depressed by FK506, even in the presence of exogenous IL-2. READ MORE

25. Regulatory aspects of innate immune responses
Abstract : Activation of innate immunity is regulated by a variety of signaling molecules within the immune cells. The present thesis was aimed to improve our understanding of innate signaling mechanism and their possible use as bio-indicators of exposure and disease. READ MORE
