  1. 1. Functional characterization of the liopsarcoma-associated fusion oncigene FUS-DDIT3

    Author : Melker Göransson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Myxoid round cell liposarcoma; fusion oncogenes; FUS; DDIT3; tumor development; cell cycle regulators; IL6; IL8; NFkappaB.;

    Abstract : Fusion genes represent a growing class of translocation-derived potent oncogenes that frequently show tumor type-specific expression. We have studied the myxoid/round cell liposarcoma (MLS/RCLS)-specific FUS-DDIT3 fusion, with the aim of functionally characterizing this fusion oncogene in sarcoma development. READ MORE

  2. 2. The association of inflammatory biomarkers with cardiovascular events : a long and winding path

    Author : Ilais Moreno Velásquez; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Aims: The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate the association of inflammatory biomarkers with cardiovascular disease (CVD) with the final scope to identify potential novel predictors of incident cardiovascular events (CVE). The specific objectives were: to study the association between levels of IL8 and the genetic variants at the IL8 and IL8 receptor genes with the occurrence of myocardial infarction (MI) and to explore if these genetic variants regulate IL8 levels (Study 1); to identify novel genetic variants associated with IL8 levels (Study II); to study the association of IL8 levels with the risk of CVE (Study III) and, finally, to investigate the association between the levels of soluble IL6 receptors (sIL6R and sgp130) with the occurrence of MI (Study IV). 3. 3. Endocrine and paracrine factors related to pregnancy and infertility

    Author : Frida Hosseini Akram; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Unexplained infertility, one of the common gynecological disorders, affecting 10 to 15 % of women worldwide. Recurrent pregnancy loss affects approximately 1 to 3 % of pregnant women with an unknown etiology in 50 % of cases. Endocrine dysfunctions, including thyroid dysfunction, are one of the related factors to female reproductive disturbances. READ MORE

  4. 4. FET proteins in cancer and development

    Author : Mattias K Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : FUS; EWS; TAF15; FUS-DDIT3; myxoid liposarcoma; NF-κB; NFKBIZ; FLT1; CDK2;

    Abstract : Chromosomal translocations leading to rearrangements of FET family genes (FUS, EWSR1 and TAF15) are found in numerous human cancers. These genetic alterations result in the formation of fusion oncogenes that express potent chimeric oncoproteins able to promote tumor development. READ MORE

  5. 5. Infections in allogeneic stem cell transplanted patients : clinical and immunological aspects

    Author : Elda Sparrelid; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : HSCT; bacteraemia invasive fungal infection; interstitial pneumonia; immunity.;

    Abstract : In allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), 30 to 40 % of transplant related mortality is associated with infection complications. This includes invasive bacterial and fungal infection, and interstitial pneumonia (IP), which are two important causes of morbidity and mortality. READ MORE
