  1. 1. Immunity & the butterfly : A functional genomic study of natural variation in immunity

    Author : Naomi L.P. Keehnen; Christopher W. Wheat; Brian Lazzaro; Stockholms universitet; []

    Abstract : Butterflies are ubiquitous and abundant, occurring in a wide variety of environments that contain diverse microbial communities with varied pathogenic pressures. These pathogens and parasites present a constant threat to organisms, and have led to the evolution of complex and intricate immune responses. READ MORE

  2. 2. Insect immunity : structure and function of three antibacterial proteins from Hyalophora cecropia

    Author : Åke Engström; Uppsala universitet; []

  3. 3. Crustacean immunity : Characterization of some crayfish blood proteins

    Author : Pia Gambäck Keyser; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : The cDNA sequence and some properties of a previously purified #x03B2;-1,3-glucan binding protein are reported here. The putative amino acid sequence (predicted molecular mass: 152 kDa) of the protein did not show any significant similarity to any known protein, but an RGD motif and a region with slight similarity to bacterial glucanase was found. 4. 4. Insect immunity : Inducible antibacterial proteins from Hyalophora cecropia

    Author : Dan Hultmark; Hans Boman; Sten Hammarström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : A powerful bactericidal activity can be induced in the hemolymph of many insects as a response to an injection of bacteria. The nature of the effector molecules of this immune response was investigated, using pupae of the Cecropia moth, Hyalophora cecropia. READ MORE

  5. 5. Insect immunity : fractionation and characterization of some immune proteins induced by primary infections of giant silk moth pupae

    Author : Torgny Rasmuson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : A potent antibacterial activity in hemolymph of giant silk moth pupae is demonstrated. The system is inducible and RNA and protein synthesis are needed for the expression of the activity. Both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria were found to be susceptible. The activities could be selectively inhibited, indicating a multicomponent system. READ MORE
