  1. 1. Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 proteinase : regulation of function and catalytic activity

    Author : Laura Goobar-Larsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : HIV-l proteinase activity is a prerequisite for viral replication, and one of the main targets for anti-HlV therapy. Although potent proteinase inhibitors are currently being approved for treatment of AIDS patients, these drugs are unlikely to provide treatment which can give patients a life of normal quality and duration. 2. 2. Antiretroviral drug resistance and treatment outcomes of human immunodeficiency virus type-1 : implications for low and middle income countries

    Author : Amanda Häggblom; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : My thesis contains comprehensive studies of antiretroviral treatment (ART) naïve and experienced patients from the beginning of the Swedish HIV-1 epidemic. Paper I was the first study to describe the ART usage and occurrence acquired drug resistance mutations (DRM) at a population level in Sweden over time and we used data derived between 1997-2011. 4. 4. Immune recognition and early virus-cell interactions. Glycobiological aspects on HIV-1 gp120

    Author : Gregers J. Gram; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 HIV-1 ; glycoprotein; gp120; glycosylation.;

    Abstract : Human immunodeficiency virus types 1 and 2 (HIV-1 and HIV-2) are the etiological agents of AIDS in humans. The viral envelope glycoproteins gp120 and gp41 mediate the early virus-cell interaction of HIV with the target cells. READ MORE

  5. 5. Biosensor Studies of Ligand Interactions with Structurally Flexible Enzymes : Applications for Antiviral Drug Development

    Author : Matthis Geitmann; U. Helena Danielson; Marc H. V. van Regenmortel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; SPR biosensor; HIV-1 reverse transcriptase; HCMV protease; interaction kinetics; drug discovery; non-nucleoside inhibitor; resistance; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : The use of a surface plasmon biosensor fills a missing link in kinetic studies of enzymes, since it measures directly the interaction between biomolecules and allows determination of parameters that are determined only indirectly in activity assays. The present thesis deals with kinetic and dynamic aspects of ligand binding to two viral enzymes: the human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) protease and the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 reverse transcriptase (HIV-1 RT).
