  1. 11. Current Medical Treatment of Endocrine Pancreatic Tumors and Future Aspects

    Author : Marie-Louise Fjällskog; Morten Vatn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; pancreatic tumors; somatostatin analogs; cisplatin; etoposide; somatostatin receptors; immunohistochemistry; tyrosine kinase receptors; platelet-derived growth factors receptors PDGFRs ; c-kit; epidermal growth factor receptor EGFR ; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; alfa-interferon; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : We treated 16 patients with somatostatin analogs combined with α-interferon and achieved a biochemical and/or radiological response in 56% (median duration 22 months). We consider this treatment a good alternative for patients who fail during chemotherapy or who do not want to/cannot receive cytotoxic drugs. READ MORE

  2. 12. Studies of molecular features and novel prognostic biomarkers of cutaneous melanoma

    Author : Iva Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; primary cutaneous melanoma; chronic sun-damage; chronic sun-damage skin; gene expression profiling; immunohistochemistry; tertiary lymphoid structures;

    Abstract : Cutaneous malignant melanoma is a highly heterogeneous disease. Immunotherapy has revolutionized the treatment of stage IV disease and is now successfully administered as adjuvant treatment in stage III and soon in stage II. Correct identification of the patients at high risk for progressive disease who will benefit from the treatment is crucial. READ MORE

  3. 13. IL-6 and GLP-1 in body fat regulating parts of the CNS in healthy mice

    Author : Fredrik Anesten; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IL-6; IL-6Rα; GLP-1; obesity; hypothalamus; brainstem; tanycytes; immunohistochemistry;

    Abstract : It has previously been shown that mice lacking interleukin-6 (IL-6) develop mature onset obesity. The weight-suppressing effects of IL-6 have been assumed to be exerted at a central level, as supported by the fact that ICV- injections, but not peripheral injections of IL-6, increases energy expenditure and decreases body fat in rodents. 4. 14. Vascular Endothelin and Angiotensin Receptors Regulation in Inflammatory Arterial Disorders

    Author : Ivan Dimitrijevic; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ischemic heart disease; resistance artery; giant cell arteritis; temporal artery; immunohistochemistry; AT2 receptor; AT1 receptor; Endothelin-1; ETA receptor; ETB receptor;

    Abstract : The present thesis is aimed to examine the hypothesis that the degree of vascular inflammation correlates with the expression of vascular endothelin and angiotensin receptors. The receptor changes were studied in subcutaneous resistance arteries in patients with different degrees of ischemic heart disease (IHD). READ MORE

  5. 15. Human Endometrial Angiogenesis : An Immunohistochemical Study of the Endometrial Expression of Angiogenic Growth Factors and Their Corresponding Receptors

    Author : Björn Möller; Matts Olovsson; Bo Lindblom; Kristina Gemzell-Danielsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Human endometrium; angiogenesis; menstrual cycle; endothelial cells; immunohistochemistry; western blot; VEGF; VEGFR; FGF-2; FGFR; EGF; EGFR; levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : The human endometrium undergoes dramatic changes in morphology and function during the menstrual cycle. Recurrent angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels) is of utmost importance for oxygen supply and nourishment of the rapidly growing endometrial tissue. READ MORE
