  1. 1. Membrane transport and the human small intestine : Relation to mucosal protection, intestinal anaphylaxis and nitric oxide

    Author : Tina W. Knutson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; albumin; bicarbonate secretion; carbonic anhydrase; dopamine; duodenum; histamine; humans; hyaluronan; intestinal anaphylaxis; intestinal obstruction; jejunum; lidocaine; LOC-I-GUT; nitecapone; nitric oxide; potential difference; prostaglandins; segmental intestinal perfusion; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Abstract : The tightly adherent monolayer of epithelial cells that line the luminal side of the intestine provides a dynamic and highly regulated barrier to the passive and active transport of ions, water and macromolecules. Cathecol-O-methyl transferase inhibition prevents tissue degradation of catecholaminesincluding dopamine and intracellular carbonic anhydrase activity is an important regulator of ion and water transport in the small intestine. 2. 2. Crohn's disease with special reference to intestinal malabsorption : a clinical study based on patients from northern Sweden

    Author : Henry Nyhlin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Crohn s disease; intestinal absorption tests; muscle electrolytes; intestinal mucosa; terminal ileal function; SeHCAT;

    Abstract : Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease which may affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract with a preference for the terminal ileum and ileocaecal region. The disease was first described in 1932 and has increased during the last decades. READ MORE

  3. 3. Small Intestinal Neuroendocrine Tumors : Clinical Studies, Novel Serum Biomarkers and Sensitivity to Cytotoxic and Targeted Agents

    Author : Kosmas Daskalakis; Peter Stålberg; Per Hellman; Olov Norlén; Robert Bränström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SI-NET; fibrosis; locoregional surgery; liver transplantation; biomarkers; ex vivo sensitivity.;

    Abstract : Small Intestinal Neuroendocrine Tumors (SI-NETs) are indolent neoplasms with an increasing annual incidence of approximately 1/100 000 people. They are often diagnosed at a late stage, restricting treatment efficacy. READ MORE

  4. 4. Molecular and clinical studies of intestinal malrotation

    Author : Karin Salehi Karlslätt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Intestinal malrotation (IM) can present as a potentially life-threatening condition with midgut volvulus and need of immediate surgery, but also as a chronic condition with long-lasting symptoms. It is a well-known neonatal condition but it is not as well “explored” up to adulthood. READ MORE

  5. 5. Abdominal adhesions - clinical impact and experimental prevention

    Author : Bobby Tingstedt; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; orthopaedics; anastomotic healing; adhesion prevention; polypeptides; long term follow-up; cost; non-specific abdominal pain; abdominal adhesions; small bowel obstruction; ortopedi; traumatologi; Kirurgi; traumatology; burst pressure;

    Abstract : Intraabdominal adhesions are formed after most operations and a limited number of studies have to examine the long-term spectrum of adhesion-related disorders and the cost associated with this. Only a few numbers of antiadhesive agents are available which, however, do not decrease the actual morbidity that follows intraabdominal adhesions, such as small bowel obstruction, infertility and pain.
