1. Development and regulation of alveolar fluid clearance in the guinea pig
Abstract : Alveolar fluid clearance is driven by active absorption of Na+ across the alveolar epithelium. Development and hormonal regulation of alveolar fluid clearance over 1 hour was studied by instillation of a protein-containing, isosmolar fluid into lungs of fetal, newborn, and adult guinea pigs. 2. Canine inherited retinal degenerations: a model for visual impairment in humans

3. Mechanisms of multicellular drug resistance and novel approaches for targeted therapy in cancer
Abstract : Dysregulated gene expression, due to genetic and epigenetic aberrations, as well as cancer cell-stroma interactions underlie both tumorigenesis and resistance to anti-cancer therapy. Although governed by common mechanisms, these features are unique to each individual tumor and therefore a personalized treatment regimen needs to be composed for each patient. READ MORE

4. Lung hyaluronan and lung water in the perinatal period
Abstract : Hyaluronan is an important component of the lung extracellular matrix, with a high capacity for water immobilization, but information on perinatal changes in the lung hyaluronan concentration and their association with changes in the lung water content is limited. In this study, conducted both in rabbit pups and in human infants, we investigated changes in the hyaluronan concentration and distribution in the lung and in the lung water content after preterm or term birth, and changes produced by common antenatal and postnatal pathological conditions and treatments. 5. Pneumococcal vaccination in inflammatory rheumatic disease. Antibody response and protection against infections
Abstract : AbstractObjectives: Patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases (IRDs) have higher risk of serious infections than healthy individuals due to their illness, comorbidities and treatments.
