  1. 1. The Immune System in the Oldest-Old : Clinical and Immunological Studies in the NONA Immune Cohort

    Author : Bengt-Olof Nilsson; Jan Ernerudh; Anders Wikby; Sture Löfgren; Karlis Pauksens; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Elderly; selection; health status; lymphocyte subsets; CD8; CMV; cytomegalovirus; immune risk; immune risk phenotype; IRP; T-cells; interleukin 6; IL-6; survival; mortality; antinuclear antibodies; ANA; ageing; immunosenescence; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The oldest-old (people aged 80 or older) constituted 5 % of the population in Sweden in 2000, an increase from 1.5 % fifty years earlier. The immune system undergoes dramatic changes at high age, sometimes referred to as “immunosenescence”. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies of proteins in heme and iron metabolism

    Author : Vijole Dzikaite; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; Iron; Heme; IRE IRP; Liver; eALAS; HFE;

    Abstract : One aim of the study was to investigate the regulation of the murine erythroid isoform of aminolevulinate synthase (eALAS) protein involved in heme synthesis. Another aim was to characterize the structure of the rat hemochromatosis gene (HFE) gene and its expression in conjunction with other genes involved in the regulation of iron homeostasis during inflammation and iron overload in the rat liver. 3. 3. Characterisation of some iron proteins in Drosophilia melanogaster and Pacifastacus leniusculus

    Author : Maria I. Lind; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; fysiologisk mykologi; Physiological Mycology;

    Abstract : The cDNA cloning of the 76-kDa protein, an immune protein from crayfishhaemocytes, shows that it is similar to a family of haem-containing peroxidases.In addition to its cell adhesion activity it has also peroxidase activity, and theprotein was named peroxinectin. The cell adhesion is probably mediated by aKGD-motif present in peroxinectin. READ MORE

  4. 4. Corrosion protection and nanomechanical properties of waterborne acrylate-based coating with and without nanocellulose on carbon steel

    Author : Yunjuan He; Per M. Claesson; Orlando Rojas; KTH; []
    Keywords : Hydroxyacrylate-melamine copolymer; cellulose nanocrystals CNC ; cellulose nanofibrils CNF ; Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy EIS ; atomic force microscopy AFM ; corrosion protection performance; water uptake; nanomechanical and nano-wear properties; coating; nanocomposite.; Hydroxyakrylat-melamin-sampolymer; cellulosananokristaller CNC ; cellulosananofibriller CNF ; Elektrokemisk impedansspektroskopi EIS ; atomkraftsmikroskopi AFM ; korrosionsskyddsprestanda; vattenupptag; nanomekaniska egenskaper och nano-slitage; coating; nanokomposit.; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Corrosion protection is commonly achieved by applying a thin polymer coating on metal surfaces. In this doctoral thesis, a waterborne hydroxyacrylate-melamine copolymer coating was used for this purpose. The first step was to find the optimal curing conditions. READ MORE
