  1. 16. On the Search for High-Energy Neutrinos : Analysis of data from AMANDA-II

    Author : Johan Lundberg; Allan Hallgren; Olga Botner; Els de Wolf; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neutrinos; neutrino detection; cosmic rays; ultra-high energy; numerical simulation; optical properties; monte carlo method; ray tracing; neutrino detection; AMANDA; IceCube; WIMP; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : A search for a diffuse flux of cosmic neutrinos with energies in excess of 1014 eV was performed using two years of AMANDA-II data, collected in 2003 and 2004. A 20% evenly distributed sub-sample of experimental data was used to verify the detector description and the analysis cuts. READ MORE

  2. 17. A search for ultra-high energy neutrinos with AMANDA-II

    Author : Christin Wiedemann; Stephan Hundertmark; Lee Thompson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neutrinos; Cosmic rays; Ultra-high energy; AMANDA; IceCube; Physics; Fysik; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : High-energy neutrinos are capable of carrying information over vast distances, and neutrino telescopes such as AMANDA-II provide the means to probe deep inside the violent and energetic interior of the universe. AMANDA-II is located in the glacial ice at South Pole in Antarctica and is optimised to detect Cherenkov emission from neutrino-induced muon tracks with energies above 100 GeV. READ MORE

  3. 18. Search for Neutrinos from Gamma-ray Bursts using the IceCube Neutrino Observatory

    Author : Kunal Avinash Deoskar; Chad Finley; Klas Hultqvist; Paschal Coyle; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gamma-ray bursts; neutrinos; IceCube Neutrino Observatory; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : Gamma ray bursts (GRBs) are short bursts of high energy γ-radiation and are among some of the most energetic phenomena in the universe. GRBs have three distinct emission phases: the prompt phase with high-energy γ-rays, the precursor phase which is the time interval before the prompt phase and is reported to have an additional smaller burst for some GRBs, and the afterglow phase which is the time interval after the prompt phase with observations for electromagnetic radiation across a large wavelength range reported for many GRBs. 4. 19. Indirect Searches for Dark Matter in the Milky Way with IceCube-DeepCore

    Author : Martin Wolf; Chad Finley; Maurizio Spurio; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dark Matter Annihilation; WIMP; Milky Way; IceCube Neutrino Observatory; DeepCore; neutrino; particle physics; high-energy physics; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Many astronomical observations, including rotational curve measurements of stars and the analysis of the cosmic microwave background, suggest the existence of an invisible matter density content in the Universe, commonly called Dark Matter (DM). Possibly, DM could be of particle nature, where Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) could be a viable DM candidate. READ MORE

  5. 20. Preparations for the next solar WIMP Analysis with IceCube : Advances in simulation, filtering, event topology identification and analysis approach

    Author : Marcel Christian Robert Zoll; Christian Walck; Samuel Silverstein; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; IceCube solar WIMP EventSplitter Filter Clustering Recombination Analysis Likelihood; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : In the year 2011 the construction of IceCube, a neutrino observatory buried in deep clear Antarctic ice, was completed. IceCube now consists of an array of 5160 digital light detection modules assembled on 86 strings, which encloses a instrumented volume of roughly 1~km$^3$ optimized for detection of neutrinos down to energies of 100~GeV.
