  1. 1. Tissue remodelling in pulmonary fibrosis linked to 5-HT2 receptor activation

    Author : Anna Löfdahl; Lungbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Serotonin 5HT ; Serotonin class 2 receptor antagonist; Fibroblast; Pulmonary fibrosis; Extracellular matrix ECM ;

    Abstract : After an injury, an immediate reparative response is triggered to replace the damaged tissue, however, in fibrosis, cells remain active despite wound resolution causing a steady build-up of fibrotic tissue. In pulmonary fibrosis,there is a constant regeneration and remodelling of lung tissue where the thin architecture of alveoli become thickened, hampering efficient diffusion of oxygen, as seen in diseases like idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). 4. 4. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis : disease presentation, clinical course and potential biomarkers

    Author : Dimitrios Kalafatis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The interest and research within the area of the fatal lung disease idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) has increased exponentially over the past decades. This has resulted in important insights into the nature and pathogenesis of the disease, which ultimately constitute the knowledge base upon which diagnostic, management, treatment decisions and guidelines are shaped. 5. 5. Causes and treatment of chronic respiratory failure : experience of a national register

    Author : Torbjörn Gustafson; Kerstin Ström; Karl Franklin; Kjell Torén; Kurt Boman; Leif Bjermer; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Internal medicine; Invärtesmedicin; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; pulmonary fibrosis; kyphoscoliosis; respiratory failure; sex; smoking; occupation; survival; long-term oxygen therapy; mechanical ventilation; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Abstract : Long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT) or home mechanical ventilation (HMV) can improve survival time in chronic respiratory failure. A national quality register could be an aid to identifying risk markers and optimizing therapy for respiratory failure. READ MORE
