11. Host susceptibility to rotavirus infection and development of antibody-based immunotherapy
Abstract : Rotavirus infects mature enterocytes of the small intestine of young children and cause gastroenteritis, leading to approximately 500 000 deaths annually worldwide, 85 % of which occur in the developing world. The main objectives of the thesis were to investigate host genetic factors leading to differential susceptibility to rotavirus infections and to develop an antibody-based oral therapy against the infections. 12. Design, production and characterization of synthetic immunogens : application on Plasmodium falciparum malaria antigens
Abstract : The development of synthetic subunit vaccines is presently one of the major strategies to construct vaccines against infectious diseases. Such vaccines are based on isolated and characterized immunogens and should include appropriate B- and T-cell epitopes. READ MORE

13. The clinical importance of non-HLA specific antibodies in kidney transplantation
Abstract : The clinical significance of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) antibodies (Abs) for hyperacute, acute and chronic antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) of kidney allografts has been clearly demonstrated. AMR occurs in the absence of donor-reactive HLA Abs. READ MORE

14. Genetic design for facilitated production of human peptide hormones inEscherichia coli
Abstract : Genetic strategies have become important in the design ofefficient processes for production of recombinant proteins. When constructing a production scheme, inherent properties, purity and quality requirements, as well as the final use ofthe protein, have to be considered. READ MORE

15. Combinatorial protein engineering applied to enzyme catalysis and molecular recognition
Abstract : The recent development of methods for constructing andhandling large collections (libraries) of proteins, from whichvariants with desired traits can be isolated, hasrevolutionized the field of protein engineering. Key elementsof such methods are the various ways in which the genotypes(the genes) and the phenotypes (the encoded proteins) arephysically linked during the process. READ MORE
