16. The Role of FCGBP in Mucus - Structure, Processing and Function
Abstract : In this thesis, a bottom-up approach was used to study the IgG Fc-binding protein (FCGBP), which next to the MUC2 mucin is the second main component of secreted mucus in small intestine and colon. FCGBP is also found in airways during inflammatory conditions with static mucus. READ MORE

17. TRANSMISSION AND PATHOGENESIS OF HANTAVIRUS
Abstract : Hantaviruses are the causative agents of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) in Eurasia, and of hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS) in the Americas. Transmission to humans usually occurs by inhalation of aerosolized virus-contaminated rodent excreta. READ MORE

18. Studies on Potency and breadth of HIV-1, HIV-2 and SIV neutralizing antibody responses
Abstract : Even though the relative contribution of neutralizing antibodies (Nab) to prevent progression to AIDS during HIV-1 infection is still unclear, the induction of broadly NAb directed against HIV-1 through vaccination is considered to represent an important goal for the development of HIV-1 vaccines. Factors contributing to the induction of NAb may include the strength and duration of antigenic stimulation, the preservation of CD4+ T and B cells, the conformation of the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein complex (Env), and the evolution of Env during infection. 19. Engineering of Antibacterial Phage-Derived Proteins
Abstract : The increasing threat of antibiotic resistance calls for the development of new treatment methods. Bacteriophages are interesting candidates since they can lyse bacteria with great efficiency. Bacteriophages produce enzymes called endolysins which break down the peptidoglycan in the cell wall at the end of the infection cycle. READ MORE

20. Renal dysfunction in orthopaedic surgery - with special reference to drug effects in the elderly
Abstract : Total hip replacement (THR) is a common procedure, generally performed in elderly persons. Previous studies indicated that the use of isoxazolyl penicillins could induce a transient post-operative renal dysfunction in these patients. READ MORE
