11. Experimental Investigations on Natural Gas-Diesel Dual Fuel Combustion
Abstract : Natural gas has been traditionally applied in spark-ignited combustion engines due to similar combustion characteristics for methane gas and gasoline. However, spark ignition requires a low compression ratio to avoid knock problems and therefore, gas engines have lower efficiency than diesel engines. READ MORE

12. System Simulation of Partially Premixed Combustion in Heavy-Duty Engines : Gas Exchange, Fuels and In-cylinder Analysis
Abstract : The concept of partially premixed combustion (PPC), applied to conventional diesel engines, has shown to yield high gross efficiencies and low emissions of oxides of nitrogen and soot. PPC emerged from the knowledge gained from homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) research. READ MORE

13. Transient Phenomena in CO and Hydrocarbon Oxidation over Supported Platinum Catalysts
Abstract : The aim with this thesis work was to better understand transient phenomena involved in the low-temperature oxidation of CO and hydrocarbons by oxygen over typical oxidation catalysts. Supported platinum catalysts were prepared and carefully studied under transient conditions by means of flow-reactor experiments, different in situ spectroscopic (FTIR and XANES) methods in combination with mass spectrometry and mean-field kinetics simulations. 14. Modeling Auto-Ignition, Flame Propagation and Combustion in Non-Stationary Turbulent Sprays
Abstract : This thesis focuses on detailed numerical studies of spray formation, auto-ignition, envelope flame development and combustion in a simple two-dimensional axi-symmetric geometry. A Lagrangian -- Eulerian formulation is used to analyze the droplet motion and gas flow field. READ MORE
